On the bubble hand...

Posted Mon Mar 06, 2006 2:37 pm GMT by Soup_dog
Ok, hopefully I can remember the exact scenario...

Near the bubble in a $3 mtt with about 1500 players.
Blinds are 300/600 and I am in late position with 9000 chips.

UTG has a big stack ~15000
UTG +1 is short stacked ~3000
Mid position has ~3000
button has ~15000

I am dealt Q Q.

Button limps.
UTG +1 pushes
MP pushes. pot is around 9000 in chips.
I call.
Button pushes all-in.
UTG pushes all-in

What should I do? (I am left with about 6000 chips at this point.)

What is the tournament average? Highest? Near bubble, but 120 left or under 20?

I guess the real question is-why didnt you move all in and isolate the shorties? I assume the big stack had AQ AK and flopped an ace?

Since you say it was a $3, I assume the bubble is only worth $5-10, so I call. If it was the WSOP and I won a satalight to get in, I fold QQ preflop and let the 2 all ins eliminate themselves-just hoping to get $10-12k in my pocket.

Just getting ITM is nice, but the real money is for the winner. Play to win. Call and see if you can get up to $24k in chips then cruise to the final table.

Near 120 which is the start of payoffs. The first 60 or 70 don't really win you a huge amount.

I was concerned about the two big stacks behind me and didn't want to lose my whole stack if they pushed. Which they did. BOTH big stakes pushed "all-in" and now I am wondering what to do. My pot is about $22000 and it will cost me the rest of my stack to call. (About 6k)

Fold or call?

Call is my vote. If not, you are left w/ 6k for blind of 300/600, that isnt too bad, but it isnt health either.

You need to last for about one more hour to start getting into decent payouts, time to make a move.

There is one more angle here-sure someone might have AA or KK, but, if they dont, it it just as likely that you are against JJ 55 AK AQ and only have to dodge 9 outs. That puts you about 30% to win it all and over 50% to at least get your money back if you beat the big dogs.

Dang man. I needed your advice last night. I folded. With 4 players "all-in", especially one big stack calling another big stacks "all-in", I thought for sure someone would have aces or kings.

Naturally, the hands were something like 99, AJ, AJ, KT. My queens would have held up. I couldn't believe it.

I busted out at 124 when my short stack "all-in" with 99 was called by KK.
