Watch out for hackers I have done some some research and found they use techniques like "playing good hands" and "trapping" which is sometimes also known as "slowplaying".

Another clown that throws accusations around without backing them up, what a surprise. Rolling Eyes

You didn't even see fit to giving us the particulars as to just what happened either, so how about shutting up. I bet that his password was weak or that it is the same one he uses for every site he ever signs up for and someone used it to clean his account out.

or, maybe, just maybe, this was the setup for a 2 part spam. Or maybe I am just bitter.

It's ok that it's a long story, we can afford the bandwidth so feel free to post the details.

Quote:

Actually, you said that you got "scammed" on Full Tilt right in the title. You also inferred that they should have done something about it. But since it was apparently too much effort to include any details i guess we're supposed to just take your word for it.

Quote:
FTsupport was no help and was actually vague (like my first post lol) with their explanations of what happened

Well, if you were as forthcoming with the details of what happened with support as you were with us, i don't blame them one bit.

I call BS on this one. You wanted us to think that it's Full Tilt's fault that someone accessed your account and took your money.

Quote:
BTW I didnt lose my funds playing...someone accessed my account and my funds were gone....i am wondering why Fulltilt couldnt track them...but...as smart as they think they are...they couldnt

If you had told us what happened instead of simply trying to ruin Full Tilt's reputation maybe someone here might have had some insight as to why they couldn't help you.

Posted Fri Mar 10, 2006 9:08 am GMT by golddog
Let's see if I've got this right. Someone logged into your account using your username and password, which you didn't protect adequately. They siphoned off funds to some other bank account, and Full Tilt was supposed to notice that the bank account didn't really belong to you, even though the transaction was initiated behind their username and password authentication, which is the only way they have to know it's you or not.

That about it?

If that's not it, I'm sure I and everyone else would be interested in the details. If there truly is a problem, I'm sure we'd all appreciate knowing about it. However, making charges without any substatiation doesn't make your case very strong./i

Ahhh!! So that's it!!! I remember waking up one morning and having more money in my account than I had the night before.

I never thought of complaining about it though!!

OK...here are the details...

I was playing in a ring game...I read something in the chat portion that looked like a fulltilt promotion...went to the site..looked legit..so I entered my name and password...turned out to be a scam...when I logged on next time...my account was frozen..emailed support..and they told me that my account had been a victim of a scam (HOW DID THEY KNOW THAT??) so they wanted me to create a new account so they could transfer remaining funds (THERE WASNT ANY REMAINING FUNDS)...they told me there wasnt anything they could do..too bad for me

My question was...how did they know that my account was accessed before i notified them? If they did know right away (which they said they did) why didnt they freeze my account right away...and also..why would someone access my account without the intention of transferring them (which would be trackable) they said they investigated..but couldnt tell where they went.....so you see...I was scammed...I am not happy that FTP couldnt freeze my account(which they said they realized I was scammed right away)...I am confused why they couldnt track my funds...I am confused about a lot of their answers to my questions

I realize now that I shouldnt have typed in my password(I guess I was naive) but why couldnt they track the funds and how did they know before I notified them and if the did know(FT) why didnt they freeze account immediately

OK--bash me on how stupid I was...but read the posts and maybe offer some explanation for the inconsistencies with FTP's answers to my questions

THX

They may have had a flag that your account was drained from an IP Address you'd never logged in from before, but they may not have had a setup where it would block the money from being withdrawn from that IP. Since they saw the transfer but did not have a setup to block the transfer and your money was already gone, freezing your account would have done no good. They then notified you that they had a record of the withdrawl from someone with your username and password but that they suspeceted it wasn't you.

This is all just a guess. I don't know how their system works.

By the way, I have alot of money tied up in some stocks over in India and just need a USA bank account to put it in. Could you please send me all your banking info? I promise that I will give you $1,000,000 once I have completed my transactions.

Yeah, you got taken for a ride. It happened the moment you'd gone to some other website. I'm curious what the name was actually... the bogus site probably looked like the other site and well, you entered your name and password and some foreign site.

I occassionally get these bogus PayPal emails... they're actually pretty good at scamming. You got to be careful.

BTW How much were you scammed out of?

I can't believe that people still fall for phishing scams. Do you remeber the url of the site?

Quote:
My question was...how did they know that my account was accessed before i notified them?

Do you think that the scammers only did it to you? I'm guessing there were others that got scammed who notified FT and they then started investigating and that's how they knew.

Quote:
If they did know right away (which they said they did) why didnt they freeze my account right away...

They might have known very shortly after your money was transferred out but there's not a whole lot they can do at that point unless the scammers are dumb enough to leave the money in another FT account which they obviously weren't.

Quote:
I am confused why they couldnt track my funds...I am confused about a lot of their answers to my questions.

All the scammers have to do is transfer the money thru a couple of FT and/or Netteller/paypal type accounts and FT will have next to no chance of being able to recover the money.

Quote:
why didnt they freeze account immediately?

It sounds like they did, but the money was already gone. Unless you expected them to magically know ahead of time which accounts were going to be scammed because they were dumb enough to type their username/password on a random link that appeared in the chat window. I fail to see how Full Tilt is responsible in any, this is 100% your own fault.

Full Tilt's obligation is to try and hunt the thief down and prosecute/injure them in some meaningful way. They need to do this for Full Tilt's own reasons. I suspect this is why they already knew you were scammed.

Sadly, for you, that obligation has nothing to do with getting your money back. It has to do with making their site as free from this kind of thing as possible. That is just good business.

You made a very, very, very bad decision. I suspect you won't make that mistake again.

To think that the site is somehow responsible for that decision, or has an obligation to undo your actions is a little bit...childish on your part.

every site i have ever been member off , poker or not
aways said that u should never give out your password, no site ever asks for your password.

heck i even got a paypal mail few days back whehre they said there is some problem and i need to log in to correct it, ofcourse link was to some totally different web address, i wonder how many fell for that also

I, personally, am padding my post count. Wink

So FullTilt didn't scam you, someone else did. You're angry at FT because they won't cover the money that someone else stole from you? That's like you giving a girl you happen to meet in a bar your PIN number for your ATM card and then wanting the bank to reimburse you because she took your card and stole your cash.

I'm not trying to be rude (well, maybe just a little), but don't bash FT because you made a mistake. They didn't give out your account information. You did.

Sounds like someone had too much to drink and drained their account.
Been there, done that.

Well, you were indeed scammed (actually "phished"). But I don't see how you can blame the site and I think that it was inappropriate for you to imply that it was their fault, especially in your original post with no details.

Whether you are looking for advice, action, or sympathy it is your responsibility to provide details. Good luck next time.

Tony and other moderators: I've seen other forums that have special scam and fraud discussion lists. Is this important enough in our field to start one up?

Posted Wed Mar 29, 2006 11:30 pm GMT by zinn0
This just arrived in my inbox, and I thought I would share with everyone.

Dear monkeytilter,

As you probably know, scams and hoaxes are becoming more common on the Internet. Unscrupulous individuals, posing as website administrators, entice people to divulge their user IDs and passwords - resulting in serious financial consequences. Unfortunately, Full Tilt Poker is not immune to these "phishing" scams.

Please know that no one from Full Tilt Poker will ever ask for your Player ID and password.

During a game, you might receive chat offering deals "too good to be true." The scammers invite you to go to a legitimate looking website where you have to enter your Full Tilt Poker account information. Regrettably, people are fooled by these cons all too often, and their hard-earned money has been drained from their accounts.

Again, no one from Full Tilt Poker will ever ask for your Player ID and password. There are only two valid locations where you will be asked to provide this information:

When you log in to the game software
When you log in to our online poker forums, located at ...
You should guard your account information as closely as you would your bank account number. Also, whenever a genuine Full Tilt Poker representative contacts you through screen chat, the text color is green.

If you feel that you've been a victim of a scammer, or suspect that you've been approached by one, contact support at fulltiltpoker right away, and give us as much information as possible.

For more detailed information on how you can protect yourself from unscrupulous activity at Full Tilt Poker, click the following link: ...

Rest assured, we are committed to make playing at Full Tilt Poker safe, secure, and enjoyable.

Good luck and we'll see you at the tables.

Sincerely,

Team Full Tilt

i think it works well (it's like a double bluff!)

since these changes i now just lose money to other poker players instead.

I normally go for poems, phrases or film quotes. E.g.

Password: sh2mlf (Say hello to my little friend).
