I watched this for the 1st time last night. Danial, Johnny Chan, Doyle, Sammy, Freddie, Eli, Mimmy, and 2-3 "amatuers".

Good stuff in general. I think it was like 500/1000 or 1000/2000NL cash game.

Most interesting hand of the night IMO, Freddie limps in EP w/ QQ, 5 come in and Doyle hand recommended that they straddle for a round. One of the amatuers didnt do it and Freddie was really pissed at him.

Anyway, unraised pot, Flop 542, all check to Freddie and he bets about $3k and Daniel raises to $6k w/ A3 after flopping the wheel.

Freddie folds his QQ face up. I think he folded 1/2 out of spite but maybe he knew Daniel had a pair and a draw or 2 pair. He kept going off on the dude for not straddling and whining about how much money he lost for him or Daniel.

Negraneau was down about $350k at this point. I am sure he wasnt happy to only win the limps and a small bet.

So, could you lay down QQ w/ 5 high rainbow flop facing a min raise?

I really don't think I could.

It was an amazing laydown, i think you called it correctly Dave when you say it was 1/2 out of being pissed at the guy for not straddling.

But did you see it later when the same guy (i think it was?) managed to donk off his $150,000 to Johnny Chan's AA Laughing

FYI it's $300/600 NL with 100 ante and now a live straddle

High Stakes Poker is a great piece of TV, you should really try and get a hold of the earlier episodes too. DN lays down TT with an all unders board to a higher pp and then does it again with JJ. Ted Forrests reads are amazing too.

there is another thread on these earlier episodes HERE if you wanna read up on 'em

Dude.... Freddy Deeb calling Daniel's 50k bet with second pair... that was the call of a lifetime. I love that show.

I think in high stakes poker a min-raise on the flop is the worst thing you face with an overpair, esp if OOP.

Pot 1000

P1 bets 750
O2 raises 750

Pot 2500
P1 bets inviting a raise or checks inviting a bluff

If he calls the flop, the whole pot can spiral out of control and P2 can go for an overbet on the turn/river if he smells P1 wants a showdown.

I don't know his reasons for folding, but my guess is he didn't want to go up against a set. Though these players probably think on whole different level than I do.

This show is a real eye-opener and reminds just the extent to which I don't have 'it' when it comes to playing poker. Some of their play is astounding.

I wanna see more Ted too, the guy is a master.

man we don't talk about this show enough.

I think this might be the best poker show. I find it WAY more interesting to watch these guys play for cash and pull the same kind of dumbass coffeehousing I see in home games

Also, watching sammy farha screw with sheikan is a HOOT.

How could you not lay down a PP with that flop and a min raise? That just screams that someone is playing shannanagins on you and your going to loose alot of money in this pot.

I really like this show. Some of the plays are rather well done. I have noticed one or two donk plays as well but for the most part this is top notch poker at it's best.... Smile

I agree. By far the best and most interesting show on poker around. I thought Freddy's laydown of QQ there was really huge. Frankly, I was suprprised that Daniel didn't just call on the flop there and then hope Freddy would lead again. But, I guess he is generally aggressive so that might have looked even more suspicious.

I hope they keep doing this show for a lot more seasons. BTW, what happened on the AA hand for Chan? I had changed the channel to go back to 24 and when I got back, Fred Chamanara was busted and Gabe seemed to think he made a big error? Can anyone elaborate for me?

Fred had a "brain fart" and pushed all in with a "marginal" hand... at best. Chan called of course and his aces held up. Fred had just come back from the rest room and just managed to get into the hand before being dealt out so I don't think he had his mind completely in the game yet. I don't think he had even sat down yet.

I can't believe some of the godawful beats Daniel has been taking. Just brutal.

Great show though.
