I'm a newbie playing 2/4 limit at the casino a couple times a week (for recreational purposes), just wondering what the usual average game length is.
Right now I'm averaging about 2.25 hours a game, figuring I have to play at least this long to give myself a chance to play some hands (I'm playing pretty tight).

Not that it's important, but you mean session. The game was there before you got there, and will continue on without you.
Unfortunately, I'm going to have to give this an it depends. You correctly analyze one facet, that you're a tight player and thus want to play a while.
But there's so much else. How are you feeling on a given day? Sharp or tired? How much do you have invested (i.e., how long a trip) just getting there/waiting on the list/etc. How is the rest of the table? Can you play with them, or are they just going to take your money.
etc...etc...
As a general rule, Doyle's advice is best. Never leave a game where you have the best of it, once that changes, take off.

personally id say set a time to stop before sittig down. If you dont you run the risk of playing on to chase losses which is bad. Or you could play on when winning even when tired and lose winnings.

It varies a great deal. As was stated, it depends on your personal feeling/aptitude on a given day as well as your wins/losses. I usually have a set time to stop at a casino and a set loss stopping point. Whichever of these comes first (hopefully it's the time and not the loss) indicates the end of the session.

I play until I'm ready to leave. Many things can influence this decision. Some but not all are how well I'm doing, how tired I am, if my group is ready to leave, if I feel I'm getting 'outclassed', etc. etc. etc.

If I sit down at a NL table online and double up in the first 30 seconds, then my session might only last 30 seconds 
Other than that, pretty much what everyone else said. There is no "correct" session length. Play as long as you're having a good time and are comfortable at the table. That could be an hour and it could be 10 hours.

It depends, of course. But i think there is no point in playing for less than one hour. You need a while to build up your table image and to adopt to the table. If you want numbers: 2-3 hours per session should be okay.

I would say the lengh of the session depends on the time of day. If iI just started at 2 am, I would not play longer than 30 min or so.
Setting up the time to leave does not work for me. I am always like "ohh.. just 5 more min, ohhh... just 10 more".
I generally play 2 hours at a go, if I stay longer I lose concentration and my eyes are starting to hurt real bad as I sit at the computer at work all the time, too.
