So, I caught the first episode of this last night. I was looking forward to seeing Joe Hachem playing, as I haven't seen much of the 2005 WSOP and I was wondering if he actually was any good or if he was just a guy on the right side of a lot of coin flips.

Anyway, I was disappointed because he went all in needlessly after about 3 hands with Q9s and ran into AA. Then he was trying to defend his actions by saying the only way to play 6 handed games is to be super aggressive, and he won't be changing his style. Doesn't really bode well for him for the rest of the series, in my opinion.

Maybe next game he's in I'll get to see him play a little bit...

cool what network is this on? I agree that you need to be aggressive, but his
play seems foolish

It was on FSN, if I remember correctly.

He was reraising Esfandiari(spl..?), he probably thought he was stealing on the button or something. It was still really stupid and unexpected though.

well maybe he didn't have his Aussie chanters behind him this time Laughing

In Hachem's defense, Esfandiari is the type of player that tries to take a lot of pots down preflop. I remember on the WPT when he first played with Hellmuth. Hellmuth would raise preflop with decent starting hands, and Esfandiari would come over the top almost every time and with junk hands.

Hachem may have known this is how Antonio plays or just took a huge, dumb risk.

I doubt it was the third hand too. These things are usually edited down for time and the PS tourneys raise the blinds pretty quickly.

I think Hachem was playing the man more than his cards, but I still don't think he needed to move all in there. I guess that's easy to say knowing he had aces, but still, the move was so rash. I'm just annoyed I didn't get to see him play at all.

And in regards to it being the third hand, it might not have been the third hand exactly, but there had only been one pot contested so far, and everyone had pretty much their starting stacks except for Esfandiari and whoever he beat in the first major pot.

What do you guys think about Hachem? Not necessarily the play he made in this tourny, but in the WSOP main event and maybe any other tournies you might have seen him in. Any particular instances of skill from him? I just have it in my mind that he's a decent player who got really lucky at the right time. Confused

Well let's put it this way. So far Steve Dannenman's done more to back up his WSOP finish than Hachem. Laughing

PSS3 is trash, with one of the crappiest structures I've ever seen.

I don't know whether to be happy that the fishies who see this think this is what Poker is supposed to be like, or horrified that Poker is misrepresented so horribly on TV.

I thought the commentary from Howard and Annie was good though. They made some interesting comments.

Has Danneman done anything or is that your point? Laughing

I think he came in like 5th in the tournament of champions.

Anyone know why Jennifer Tilly was invited to participate in PSS? Aside from being a female movie star with nice breasts that thinks she's a poker player these days, I don't really get it. Maybe that's enough for FSN, but you'd think that there's more accomplished women (poker-wise) out there that could've filled her slot.

She's the reigning Lady's Champion of poker until at least july. She may not be the "best" women's player, but she picked a game and beat it, so she gets to wear the laurels for a year.

Dannenman is another name for god in the hearts and minds of all poker players. Never has there been a player who was playing more for fun then for the cash and prestige of being at the Final table of the WSOP ME.
If I ever play the WSOP ME I hope to be able to do the same thing he did and play great ABC poker and just have loads of fun doing it Smile

For the record...he did finish 5th at the Tourney of Champions. More importantly he made some great new friends and jumped Phil Helmuths ass about stacking his chips and to act like a professional... Laughing
