Opening Pre-Flop Raising... |

I have been messing around with a new tactic for determining my opening raise amount in NL Hold'em.
Number of limpers --- Opening raise
0 --- 3xBB
1 --- 3.5xBB
2 --- 4xBB
3 --- 4.5XBB
4 --- 5xBB
5 --- 5.5xBB
6 or more --- 6xBB
By not varying my bet size based on hand strength it is impossible for my opponents to know the exact hands I am raising with. I raise the same with AA, AK, A5s, TT, or even 22.
In earlier positions I tend to raise a smaller amount - encouraging weaker hands to call me - and allowing stronger hands to raise me when I am out of position (so I know when I am beat, and when to fold)
By raising more with more limpers, I tend to raise more in later positions. This allows me to isolate my opponents while I am in position (which I can use to extract more money out of my big hands and lose less when I am beat).
When I am in the blinds and there are many limpers I want to win the pot quickly because I will be acting out of position the rest of the hand - this strategy causes me to make my largest preflop raises when I am in the blinds.
What do you think of this pre-flop raising strategy?
And --- have any of you found a better preflop raising strategy?

AHBrownell, you are setting waaay too many "rules" for yourself. There should be no hard and fast way to play any particular hand. It seems like you are trying to play NL like a robot. It doesn't work.
Your raises should be determined by your position, the other players at the table, stack sizes and finally your cards.
You are giving your oppenents way to much credit for paying attention to you. The vast majority of online are not sitting there trying to pick up "tells" from your better patterns or actions. They are playing the cards and that is it.

No no no !!! I am not making rules that are used every single time - the idea is that you play hands a certain way in specific circumstances - however it is good to go in with a general strategy.
I play over 2000 hands most days I play - on 8 tables at a time. This is not exactly "poker" - its a variation on the game. I am trying to use the best "general" strategy I can to make money in two ways. 1) Off playing solid poker, 2) Off playing a ton of hands / generating a ton of rake and earning site bonuses.
I expect that I will be playing suboptimally, but that does not mean that I cannot develop strategies to take advantage of playing SOOO many hands in "average" situations...
