Spring Break Kickoff Session

After finishing my last final today, my roommate and I headed off to the casino to play some $1/$2 NL ($100 Max). The table I sat at was pretty soft, with only one LAG (a lady, surprisingly) and a lot of limping.

The first big pot I got involved in, I had a pretty big draw. I called from LP with A Heart 8 Heart , and there were 7 people in total pre-flop. The flop came K Heart 9 Heart 8 Diamond . The blinds checked, then LAG lady bet out $15. I was ready to fold my nut flush draw, but then two more people called, and I was pretty sure the button was about to call from how he motioned toward his chips. So I decided to call with the assumption that any heart would be good, and 8 would probably win as well, and my Ace might even be good if LAG lady didn't have AK. Turn came the 3 Diamond , LAG lady bet $15 again, and again the guy on my left starting getting his chips ready. So facing big odds for the river, I called again, and then hit squat on the river. The LAG lady showed down K9 for two pair, and the button showed KQ. All in all, I was pretty happy with how I played it, since I had a big draw, and effective position because I knew what the button would do... I missed, but I was happy with how I played it. Then I rebought for $40 more.

A few hands later, I was lucky enough to pick up KK in the SB. 4 limped to the button, who raised to $10. I re-raised up to $30, and LAG lady called. Everyone else folded. Flop came J96 rainbow, and I bet my remaining $60 into a $70 pot. LAG lady called, and I was puzzled to see I was up against AK. Odd call... fortunately, two blanks hit the turn and river, and I was up to about $190 ($50 profit).

The next round, I found QQ on the button. There had been 4 limpers, so I raised to a healthy $15. The BB, who was steaming from a beat two hands earlier, pushed all-in for $47 total. Now, at this point, I had no reason to give him credit for AA or KK because of how on tilt he was, and how loose he'd been playing in general. Everyone folded to me in a hurry, and I put in the extra $32 to call. I was happy to see his A Club 10 Club . I wasn't so happy, however, when the flop was K Club 8 Club 6 Spade . The turn came the A Spade , and I was down to one out, as alas, I did not have the Q Club . The 6 Club came on the river, and I doubled up the fish. I vowed to get it back.

The next round, an interesting hand came up when I had TT from MP. There had been a straddle on the hand, and the guy on my right called, so I decided to raise to a healthy $15 again. LAG lady raised it up to $31 on the button. The guy on my right called, and I called. The flop came Q Spade J Heart 5 Diamond . Yuck. Now I didn't even want a T, lest I pay off AK. The guy on my right checked, I checked, and LAG lady curiosusly checked behind. The turn came another Q. The guy on my right checked, and I checked to see what LAG lady would do before I acted. She then pushed all-in for about $130 more. The guy on my right quickly folded, and I say there puzzled. (Funny how Skribbles just posted about the overbet phenomenon) I mulled it over before mucking my TT face up, in hopes she would show. Indeed, she turned over KK and I patted myself on the back for my laydown.

The last interesting hand of the night I played involved two red 3's in MP. 4 people had already limped in, so I followed suit, hoping to flop a set. LAG lady raised to $12 on the button, and I was prepared to muck again, but then something happened. BB called. Then 3 limpers called. Getting close to 6-to-1, there was no way in hell I was laying down this PP in what looked to be a big pot. Flop came 10-5-2 with nothing suited. Not a bad flop for me. It was checked around to me, and I checked, hoping that LAG lady would bet everyone else out and let me check-raise or give me incentive to fold my hand based on how much she bet... betting was out of the question, as she was sure to come over the top. Curiously, she again checked. The turn came the magic 3. Everyone checked to me, I bet $20, and LAG lady raised to $40. Everyone folded back to me, and it was moving day. I put in another $100 or so on top of her bet (all-in), and she called, showing A-10. I have no idea why she would not bet that flop. No 4 fell on the river and I collected another great pot.

All in all, a very good session, as I finished about $240 ahead. I was very surprised at how poorly LAG lady played in almost every pot she was in against me. She never should have let me hit that three, she should have got some value from her Kings, and she should never have called with A-high when I bet all in with my KK. That just goes to prove that in Poker, your money really DOES come from your opponents' mistakes.

On Thursday, it's off to Lucky Derby to get back into the Omaha 8-or-better scene, but things are looking good for Spring break.

Nice story. The LAG lady sure did have it all wrong, checking when she had a hand with that image - strange play.

Just a question. Why where you thinking about laying down that monster draw against a LAG player? Even against two pair it's just about even money. (knowing one player held KQ actually makes you the favorite over top two)

I was also gonna ask....even if nobody calls in between the lady and you, I think you can be sure to get enough money back if you hit your draw to make it worthwhile. I don't think I would've even considered folding that draw.

As did it with me. This probably is the wrong thread to write it in, but they're coming to Toronto soon! :D

Says who? I'm diehard fan and there is nothing that even mentions that they are coming to Toronto.

If the LAG lady had had a better table image, you might have called her massive all-in overbet with your tens but alas, she can't be making moves like that given her play up to that point. God bless these people Smile
