Deposit, then jump in head first. Play money teaches nothing.

Give it a shot playing some low limit cash games and see how you do. Just deposit somewhere and try it out.

Just deposit some cash (however much you can afford to lose) and hit the lowest stakes tables available.

deposit money and give it a go

HOWEVER, copy and paste your losing hands so you can refere back to them, (hence; learn from your mistakes)

if you've only been playing a short time you, need to be aware of what your doing wrong and how to play the hand next time.

if in any doubt, post it onto this site and let everyone else advise you on how to play it.

And despite what many of us sometimes like to think...poker isn't rocket science. It's about getting the money in with the best hands, and knowing when when it is profitable to put money in with the bad hands. Give it a try. :D

When you decide to jump into the pool, keep this in mind: Your bankroll is a Schrodinger's Cat. It is both profit and loss at the same time. Until you cash-out, it shouldn't factor into your financial decision-making. And until you're confident enough to play poker full-time, you should lean towards thinking of your bankroll as lost as soon as you deposit it. This should help you avoid playing over your head.

Problem gamblers see their bankroll as potential-profit and ignore the potential for loss. When their bankroll vanishes whether because of a bad-run or bad play, they immediately re-deposit to "win it back." And this is where you can get into some trouble.

And if you open the box, your bankroll will be dead.
