Well, fortunately before I wasted any more money trying to qualify for the Main Event at the WSOP this year, I realized that if I do summer school this year (which I must if I want to graduate in December as was my plan), I will still be in school for the first three days of the ME... so it looks like I'll have to wait at least one more year. But that's ok, since I really want time to build my roll and get better.
Anyways, this weekend was pretty big for me. Yesterday afternoon, I went to a friend's house in Davis for some Mixed-game Madness. We played a lot of games: $1/$2 Limit Hold'em, $0.5/$1 NL Hold'em with a $50 cap, some limit Omaha 8, Pot Limit Omaha with a $50 cap, Seven Card Stud high and 8-or-better, Razz, and Ace-to-Five single ($50 cap) and Triple-Draw (limit). I've never had such a diverse sampling of games in a single session--it was all the fun of the big games without the cash constraint. A lot of the guys there were very good players who knew Poker, but were primarily Hold'em players. Accordingly, I waited to make my big moves in the games where people were not as experienced (mostly Razz and Draw). I actually made off pretty well in the game, a couple times winning big pots in Ace-to-Five draw with a pat perfect 6 or a drawn wheel. In the five or so hours we played, I managed to rack up a $160 profit, which was pretty big in that game. After that, I went with two friends to see V for Vendetta (very good, IMO).
After the movie, I made the trek back up to Cache Creek, only to find a huge waiting list to get into the games. To kill time, I watched some of the games and realized how soft they were. A $4/$8 Limit game was the first seat to open up, so I gladly took it just to play some Poker. The game was ultra-loose, so I decided to play a lot of suited connectors in slightly earlier position than I normally would. In the hour and a half I was there waiting for the No-Limit seat, I won only two pots, once when I flopped a straight which held up, and another time when I turned the nut flush--still, those pots alone totaled up to a stunning $216! Finally, a No Limit seat opened up.
With my winnings from the $4/$8, I figured I was free-rolling at the $200 NL game, and that was a good feeling. The very first hand I was dealt, I looked down at two red Aces. An even better feeling. I'd come in one off the button, and UTG+1 had raised to $10. Two more called to me. I decided to come in for a big raise since no one knew me: $50 total. UTG+1, who had about $500 in front of him, re-raised me all-in, saying "time to gamble, new guy." The other two guys got out of the way, and I of course called. He showed A K . My heart sank instantly as the flop came 10 J Q . The table erupted with a gasp, and I thought my limit money was about to go in the drain, but then the case Ace fell on the turn, and there was a collective "oooo" from the table and the rail. Suddenly, a 10 rolled off on the turn, and again shouts erupted from the table, with other players patting me on the back. I'd doubled up and then some on hand #1. Another good feeling. A round later, in the same position, I looked down at two black Kings. Yum Yum baby. Even better, the same guy raised to $10 again. And again, two players called. I decided to make the exact same play, raising to $50. Once again, UTG+1 pushed all-in for $180 more. The other two players folded, and I of course called. Remarkably, I was up against AK again. This time, though, there were no shenanigans and I took down the pot with ease. All of a sudden, I was over $650, and became the big stack on the table. More happy news. This was where I wanted to be, because it allowed me to switch into "Gus" mode. I will fully admit that from here, I was going a little crazy. Without the big gambler in Seat 3, the table dynamics changed, and all of a sudden I was table bully. I busted a guy for $100 after I raised with J7, he called with KQ, and my two pair trapped his top pair. I busted another guy for $130 when he wasn't prepared to believe that I flopped a straight with 86. Sure, I lost the occasional mid-sized pot with my gambling style, but like Doyle says, those hands were freerolls. I probably logged about a 7-hour session, and made off with a whopping profit of $1,132 (including the limit winnings). I was very proud of how I played, and was very happy that I set a new single-session record for myself. I went to sleep very happy that night.
Sunday afternoon when I got up, I immediately took my winnings to the bank where'd they be safe (I learned my lesson from the robbery). I had a few hours to kill before my friend's birthday dinner, so I fired up Full Tilt. Sunday afternoon at the $3/$6 turned out to be much softer (I was in a limit mood, so I joined two tables and passed on the NL). One table was full of weak-tight nits who folded to a lot of continuation bets, and the other was a loose table more like a real casino. Although I had to pay careful attention to which table I was on, I made decent progress for the 3 hours or so I was on, racking up a nice $84 profit. Then it was off to dinner...
Tonight's games were a mixed bag. I busted out of all my PS money at the PLO tables ( ), but made about the same amount and a few extra bucks at Full Tilt playing more $3/$6 and some 6-handed $100 NL. It was a fairly fun night, and capped off a great weekend.
Overall, I ran my bankroll up to a new record for me: $3258 (about $800 of which is on Full Tilt)! I'm well on my way to my Full Tilt bonus, so I'm thinking of transferring some cash to a new site to bonus whore some more. I think it may be time to move up the stakes a little, but I don't want to go too crazy either.
It's still spring break, so tomorrow I'll probably either head over for the Mixed Games again, or possibly back to Lucky Derby in Sac to beat up a soft Omaha 8 game.

Jane, you ignorant, misguided slut.
You're probably not old enough to have a clue where that comes from, but I'm too tired to explain it.
Nice weekend! I finally had a profitable weekend myself. It feels great. Of course, I didn't make $3k, but then again I only risked about $100 overall. Considering $50 of that was in a tourney that I bubbled on, I can't complain.
I'm extremely impressed to see that you're dedicated to graduating as opposed to playing the WSOP this year. There's always next year. Get your degree first. If nothing else, when you're at the final table, they'll list you as a college grad with a degree in X when they introduce you on TV. :D If you don't make it that far (God forbid) you still have a plan B.
I'm also glad to see you out of your slump.

No, but I'm an insomniac. Nick at Night and I go way back.
