I'm at a loss for words. Ivey's opponent was pretty much pot commited and Ivey's still moved-in! I really think Ivey thought he had the best hand.
This sums up my reaction:

How come no one thinks it's amazing when I think my Q8 is good?

That was definitely the sickest play I've ever seen in Poker. I think, though, that Phil must have seen some physical tell in Jackson, because you simply cannot infer Jackson's hand from betting patterns. Jackson's mistake, however, was not pushing all-in when he decided to re-raise; had he done that, we would be applauding him instead, because Phil would not call that bet.

Agreed. The last minraise was ridiculously bad.

It probably was, although a lesser player may have taken it as a sign of strength in Jackson's hand as if he were trying to slowly roll himself all-in. I couldn't have done what Ivey did, that was amazing.

I agree that it was a tough play, but think of it this way, the guy was relatively short stacked compared to Phil. He is looking for a place to get his chips in the pot, Phil comes out betting the flop, why would this guy raise if he had anything worth moving in with? Wouldnt he just let Phil hang himself instead of trying to take down the pot right there?
I would have to watch again, but the guy didnt raise much preflop correct? So why wouldnt Phil believe that his Q high is good? It is a great read and a lot of balls, but he had the chips to make that play.
Besides, say he doubles this guy up, who cares, he still owns almost anyone in the world heads up w/ a massive chip lead.

I'm not sure if thats really whats going through his head , but i do agree with you in that phil looks like a hero for making the play , and if he was wrong .... well i doubled the shortstack , oh noes1!.

I recently watched a broadcast of a tournament somewhere in Europe where phil went over and played against some very strong semi pros and pros from europe and completely just raped them every hand. It showed him playing from the early stages and how he built his stack by just making perfect plays again and again.
Phil would raise, some guy would re-raise, phil would call, the guy would bet the flop, phil would call, guy slows down or shows any weakness phil pushes him in. This type of play had players laying down big pairs, top pair, almost anything. The thing that I found really educational about watching him play was that the blinds were relatively low compared to the players stacks so people were actually playing not just making huge raises and steals like you see on the american poker broadcasts.
They also would do this thing where they'd take it from the players perspective and play a hand against phil ivey, in one hand phil raises from mid position into this guys BB, the guy has Q8s or something and calls. The flop comes Q-7-10 or something and the guy checks, phil bets the guy comes over the top and then phil puts him all-in, the thing is like "what would you do?" buddy mucks his hand and then it shows phils hand.. K-3s or someshit. I just love watching him play, he makes everyone know that if they try to play back at him they are risking their tournament and they eventually crack after hes raised the 10th time in a row. Other hands phil hits a perfect flop and makes a pair of aces with a good kicker and lays it down to some guy with a set, I just don't know how he makes these reads honestly.

I would love and hate sitting at a table with Phil. Every time he looked at me I would feel that I had a neon sign on my forehead that said "I have XX." His reading skills are incredible. It would, however, be an honor.

Best play I have ever seen. I think the key (unless he had a physical tell) was that Phil did not believe that the other guy had a Jack, so unless he had specifically 99 or TT, Phil thought that both his cards were good if they hit (since the guy called preflop, there is less of a chance he held a Queen since he might have re-raised in position).
Anyway, I do agree on the second min raise. If he felt like he could get Ivey to fold he should have pushed. His instincts were good, but his execution was poor.

That was quite an obscure hand in the sense that jackson re-raised phil ivey... i would have gone all-in or folded but not a re-raise or a call, but i guess thats why they are pros and im not

wow.
Thanks for sharing.
You gotta love it when you can put so many chips on nothing, and keep pushing and pushing and...
