I would like to get your opinion on buying Clay or Clay Composite Chips. I prefer Clay but many think Composites are more sturdy. What do you think?
I am doing this for my next sets of chips, just want to get a moajority opinion and see if the grass IS grenner on the other side.
Thanks =)

It really depends on the chip.
All in chips are composite and they're very brittle, but the super diamond chips may be stronger than my ASM chips.
TRKing, Paulson, and Blue Chips are all stronger than ASM chips.
Check out some reviews at chiptalk and homepokertourney.
BTW, here are my chips

In my opinion, you cannot go wrong with either....or you could be like me and buy a set of each! 8)
I have a set of 800 Paulson Pharaoh's (clay) for a tourney set and a smaller set of Chipco Vineyards (composite) for a cash game.
I would rather play with clay chips any day of the week because what is mainly important to me in a chip is 1) How well they stack, and 2) How they sound. Composites can still have a sound similar to the clanky that the dice chips have, where clay chips have a sound that I just love. Clay chips also seem to be able to stack higher.
Composites, on the other hand, can really impress your guests because of the graphics.
As far as sturdy goes, I really dont think you would notice a difference until you have played hundreds of games using them. Composites probably will so a little wear while the clay chips might get rounded edges or dirty, but they are also pretty easy to clean.
Just my $.02, but I take CLAY!

Thanks guys for the reply. I also prefer clay, however it seems that clay chips also lack capability for design.. am I mistaken?
Also, what are some well-known brands besides the ones mentioned in your messages? I always hear Paulson, how are their chips different from the others?

That depends on what kind of design you want really. If you want to get Custom chips, there is a lot of design that you can do, such as; Base color of the chip, edgespot colors & patterns, mold choices, and even design of your own inlay.
I would love to tell you everything I know about poker chips, but I think you could learn more in 10 minutes perusing ChipTalk than you would from me.

Similar to their stacking ability, my favorite thing about clay chips is how grippy they are. You can flip out a stack of 20 from a chip tray and set it right on the table without the chips spilling all over the place.

Sorry if I sound (actually am) illiterate in poker chips, but what is ChipTalk?

Chiptalk is a website that is dedicated to Poker chips. It has reviews of a bunch of popular brands of chips as well as people selling some all the time.

I have been playing poker for a long time {almost 6 years now} Nothing sounds sweeter in the pot than clay chips. They have that silky smooth sound of money (hopefully) rolling my way. Every Casino in the world uses clay chips, Paulson (The cadillac of poker chip makers) makes only clay chips {most weigh in anywhere from 9.8 grams- 11.5 grams) Another premeire brand name is All-In. These are hard to come by, and by no means cheap.
If you were concerned about the durability of a chip. Take this test. Grab a hand full of clay chips and spike them into a hard floor. I gurantee you 99.9% of the time none will break-- if your poker chips are enduring more abuse than that...then get the drunk off your table.
In the debate of Clay vs. composite there is no competition. Clay is and always will be the premiere chip of every casino and is the only type of chip I and anybody who knows what they are doing will play with. That sweet sound of clay chips is music to my ears. As opposed to the drudgery the metallic clang that composite chips have.
