Loser at the new Palms Poker room

Posted Sun Mar 21, 2004 11:30 pm GMT by General Sal
I think one of the worst aspects of live low limit hold em is the wait list. I'm getting kind of tired of waiting, especially for the 4/8 tables. It's funny how it's easier to get on a 2/4 table instead. So, a 6/12 table was opening up in the new room! Hurrah!

Before I jumped in, I asked the manager of that half about the players who were getting on that table. They were definitely 4/8 players. No one to be afraid of.

I like the room, because I'm on new tables, and it's not as crowded as the other room. With less people, there's less smoke, which is also a plus. I also bought an MP3 player a few days ago, so that I could play long hours to the tune of music.

So, last week I lost $150 on a 2/4 table. Today, I lose $300 on the 6/12 table. Real bummer. As some of you may already know or suspect, I hate losing when I try out new things. Especially when it comes to jumping up a limit. I made some good laydowns, but I also made some loose calls. I also let go of a huge pot that would've been split. That was a disappointment.

I guess I should be more happier about moving up a limit though. It didn't take long before I felt comfortable.

By the way, what do you guys do to "take care of" a losing night?

Getting rid of a bad night? Well, to be blunt, chicks. Buying someone breakfast always helps!

General, it seems that at certain times there can be quite a long wait to get to a table in the Palms. I've heard rumors that the Palms has some pretty good Video Poker machines. If I could find a Jacks or Better machine with 10,7,5,3,1,1 payout for the non-pots I could stay "entertained" while waiting for my turn at the tables. The travel channel mentioned the 10,7,5... machines while reviewing the Palms. Are they really there? With proper play these machines would be around 103% payout. Not enough to make you rich but easily enough to cover the tips for waitress.
I've never been to the Palms but I'm a regular at the Sahara, it's a pretty nice poker room and the 3rd shift staff are really a riot. Some of the dealers could do very well on the comedy scene too. They can keep the tables really laughing it up.

Actually, yeah. It's one of the few things that pretty much is as billed.

No humor here, just the facts...when I have a losing outing, I go on Tilt back in my house for 24 hours and then I play again as soon as I can. 8)

Losing nights....

Is there ever a real remedy???? I tank. I get depressed. Then I hit the books for a couple days until I can screw my head back on straight. Then, once I've convinced myself that I really am the best goddamn player in the western hemisphere who just happened to have had a bad run for a couple or ten hours, I go out and slowly, carefully, patiently kick ass.

I remind myself that it's not just enough to beat you, I need to have you stretch out your whole ego across the table as you mentally rake in that pot that you think you already own...then I don't want to just take it from you, I don't want to just crush your hopes, destroy your game, put you on permanent tilt, empty your wallet and max out the ATM, swear off the game for the rest of your natural life. . . I want to plunge a knife into your very soul and see your life bleed out of you right there on the felt, Babe.

Oh yeah, when I lose I guess I get a little vindictive. (But hey, I'm not exactly a sweetheart when I'm winning, either, and that's most of the time.) It's not personal, it's just poker.

Whenever I lose, I enjoy the solace that he doesn't know I'm dating his sister yet.
