Loose/drunk/call birds in low limit hold-how do you cope ? |

I play at a local casino, Hold'Em, with a 2$-6$ spread. Many nights, there are decent players who take pride in their play and are looking to improve their game. But other nights, there will be some moron (either has too many chips or too much to drink, or both) who will call every bet or raise to the river, in hopes of making a hand. No problems there, except last night the idiot was catching almost every hand on the river card. This happened the last time I played, too. Tightening up your own starting hands/requirements doesn't help. Since this is getting to be a real trend, how do you play against the person who either calls everything, or raises up every bet preflop to price the rest of the table out of seeing the flop?
Thanks in advance for any coping tips.

Tightning up? If he's playing loose, then loosen up yourself as well because you know that your average hands are more likely good against him. Make him pay for your 2nd pair with his flush draw or 2nd pair and bad kicker. Don't be intimidated...but know when to fold.

Worst.Advice.Ever.
Just because some fool is playing everything doesn't mean you should. Pick your spots with solid hands and make him pay. Stick to your game and don't get sucked into playing bad poker.

While its true you can play more hands and have a bigger edge over the guy, you can't take this too far. I would play more suited connectors and devalue hands like QT, KT, KJ, etc that don't have the chance to make big hands. You want to be making trips, flushes, or straights against this guy, not top-pair like hands.

Well, this "awful advice" is right, to a point. In the immediate sense: if our opponent will play any two cards, we don't need that much of a hand to make our continuing on profitable. In a sense that's more applicable to real life, when players play horribly post flop, we can definitely make hands profitable that wouldn't be against better players.
This doesn't necessarily mean that we should loosen up to the point where we're playing as many hands as he is... just that quite simply, if our opponent could have almost anything, it doesn't take nearly as much of a hand to have an edge as it would against a tight opponent who has entered the pot.

Exactly.
We're not playing every hand dealt to us against this guy , but suddenly j8s doesnt look so bad to see a flop cheaply , pick up a gutshot draw with 2nd pair. If hes drunk , hes probably ( if hes not a good player to begin with )not too hard to read. Bad beats are bad beats , but if your playing solid poker against this guy..... really just bide your time and pick your spots.
*edit* to elaborate , if you think he rivered , check-call. If you think you have the best of it , jam the pot. Best advice VS a drunk luckbox , don't give up

Personally I'd bring a small laptop and attach this insanely cool USB missile launcher, and everytime that sob drew out on me, I'd carefully aim in my missile launcher and try and hit him with those little missiles.
It'd be great, imagine the table convo!
Drunk: 'Whatever...hersch a schipp!'
Drunk: 'schahaha, I win again from that guy witch the mischilesss...'
The sound of three impacts between bodies and little plastic objects can be heard.
Drunk: 'Thctach jucsht not funny anymore'
It would be so awesome.

Take advantage of him. Be the shark and wait for the fish to swim close enough. Then hit him with the missile. No, wait, that's not right. You know what I mean though.
kain, check out the "unusual USB gadgets" thread in the non-poker talk section of the forum.
That missile launcher is pretty cool. My only fear is my dog becoming a civilian casualty.
