you have say average stack around 30000

blinds are 3000/6000

you are dealt 4 4 in early position

is it pointless just calling with this hand?

first, you wont be on a final table with 3000 chips, and if you are, i wish you best of luck Razz

second, EP...it depends, you only have 5 BBs so you almost have to push

I have gone out of a great many tourneys with small pp's in EP on the shortstack, the dilemma is that if you dont play this you are about to lose 1/3 your stack in blinds. (and presumably antes)

No point just calling no, if you're playing it you have to be all in, i doubt you'll get respect tho and will be at best a coinflip.

I may raise to 15,000 , pull a stop and go play on the flop. I feel this slightly more advantagous then simply going all in for the fact , you may pick up the blinds - you may get called and your opponent miss the flop and fold ( depending on how tough the competition is ) or at worst ...... your all in again Laughing

I think this way , you have more options at least.

If this is the final table and the average M is about 3-4 things are likely to turn into a crapshoot pretty soon anyway.

Assuming no limpers yet, I’d push. You’ll probably end up in a race.

You'd be giving almost 4:1 pot odds post flop, i'm not gonna be calling pre and then folding post with those odds

if first in i woiuld be pushing.

in fact with an m of a little over 3 i would probably just get my chips in there whatever if i had any pair.

is this right even with a bet before me. i dont see how you can lay this down with the blinds about to consume a 1/3 of your stack.

???

I was just reading about this sort of hand in All-In magazine as well as Slanskys Advanced Tournament NL Holdem. Both say this is a bad move to limp or raise with a small PP. In EP I would fold these small pp unless you get to limp, but depending on how many players there are still to act, you might just be waisting chip and be forced to fold when someone goes all-in or raises big. The best way I feel to play a small pp in EP is to fold it.

You have two options, IMO. Push or fold. With the blinds coming around and your low M, pushing may be wiser. Tough to say. It would depend on the table and the stack sizes of my opponents who have yet to act. I'd probably fold.

First to act or no one has opened, I push.

If there is a raise, muck it quick.
