How do you do it?
Did you know that participating in a poker forum can help you improve your own game? Be it by sharing experiences or simply asking for help, participation in a forum helps you focus and keep 'on topic' which will help you improve your game. You can learn from other players feedback and from their experiences. Why the THP poker forums? We offer one of the best managed texas holdem poker forums available, and the community within is far more friendly than those typicaly found on other sites. We've made a 'lurkers edition' of the poker forum available here on Holdem Poker Online, but we encourage all visitors to register and join in on the conversations on TexasHoldem-Poker.com

I don't
And personally wouldn't recommend it.
However, I find that if I have a couple of drinks in me It tends to calm me down and help me play a bit better.
Getting completely shitfaced though? Might as well just throw your money in a furnace...The end result will be the same

Live or online? I don't play drunk live. I drink while I play, but not to the point of getting drunk. If I'm drunk while playing online, I drop down to limits where it won't crush my bankroll if I donk off a few hands.
I was drunk as a skunk last night and doubled my bankroll. It does depend on how the cards are running as well as the image you set at the table. I played a few awful hands and got lucky. After that I was getting action with all of my big hands all night. And, I was chatting in my drunken state. It helped even more because it was pretty obvious that I was drunk. I don't have to be sober to play good poker. In fact, I play better when I've had a drink or two. It loosens me up and allows me to use more instinct than brain.

Yep thats kinda what I was getting at.
Drinking to the point where you are calm, focused and still able to think and make good decisions actually improves my game more than anything.

I agree with the posts so far. I play in the evenings after the family has gone to bed and it is my time to unwind, which includes a drink, or two, or three. I never get drunk, but sometimes the combination of 2-3 beers and fatigue has me in worse shape than I should be in.
The biggest thing I find myself doing is failing to notice straight and flush threats developing on the board. If I hit a reasonable flop like top pair GK, two pair, or even a set I will fail to notice that there is an inside straight on the board, three to the flush, or even four to the flush or an open ended straight draw.
You might want to see my post with poll under Poker Psychology: http://www.texasholdem-poker.com/forum/t15858/how-much-do-you-drink-when-you-play. Wench has some interesting comments there as well.

Every... and I mean every single casino tournament my brother has played in he has finished at the final table and is always smashed out of his mind. Vegas, Reno or AC; he has done it in every city. He really does play much much better drunk than sober. It always starts off with a Vodka shot then turns into Red Bull and Vodka. I think he may have a problem...
I can't play and drink however.
