I'm looking through this forum and have come up with an idea that may benefit us all.
My theory is based around the fact that 95% of threads posted to this site can be put into a very minimal amount of catogories.
I figure (maybe) once one of the moderators has read the thread, they could give it a catogory, which the rest of us could use for reference. (Like for a poll)
For example, I'm don't enjoy the type of thread that starts;
"I played this great hand yesterday" or "Would you believe it, I got dealt a pocket AA's three times in a row and lost all three times" etc, etc.
But instead I do enjoy the type of thread that starts;
"What would you have done in this situation?" or "Can someone help me with my pot odd calculations"
By giving most threads a catogory, it means I can go striaght to the threads I'm interested in. I don't need to waste time on the others.
The catogories I've come up with are
1.Your opinion required
2.Advice/help required
3.Stories
4.Educational features
5.Fun/joke/laugh
I'm sure there are others that can be added and I'm also sure the moderators have an opinion.
What do you think???
Did you know that participating in a poker forum can help you improve your own game? Be it by sharing experiences or simply asking for help, participation in a forum helps you focus and keep 'on topic' which will help you improve your game. You can learn from other players feedback and from their experiences. Why the THP poker forums? We offer one of the best managed texas holdem poker forums available, and the community within is far more friendly than those typicaly found on other sites. We've made a 'lurkers edition' of the poker forum available here on Holdem Poker Online, but we encourage all visitors to register and join in on the conversations on TexasHoldem-Poker.com

Yeah this is pretty useless.

lay it down...you've got no outs!
Why do you think there are 26 different forums with suggested/enforced topics of discussion? I'm guessing you don't go to the Bad Beat forum section often, do you?

It was just an idea...

Amen. And while we are not likely to embrace it, don't jump on it guys.
The problem with any large forum is finding the optimal number of sections - too few and they get clogged up with threads that fall by the wayside because there are just too many in one category and too many where threads get ignored because people don't bother with empty forum sections.
I personally think that at this point we are in good shape - the forum has evolved a lot since day 1 and new sections are quite often created or old sections merged to create single sections that encompass a number of topics. As it stands, the forum is working quite well and it definitely won't become a 5 section forum.

Looks good the way it is. Only "problem" I can see is alot of useless posts of bad beats, obvious plays etc... Most of these threads are start "Did I play this right?" and then end when the poster loses on the river. Or the poster posts a hand they played poorly, can't take they fact they played it poorly and begin saying "I had a perfect" read on a guy at my .05/.10 nl table.
Need more "Hidden Hold'em" type posts.

Don't people have to start somewhere, as a beginner usually? I mean they can't just wait until they become better poker players to post.

You are correct Johhny.
The last few times a thread like this has been started I, along with other people, have thrown out the suggestion of a micro-stakes section.
The problem I see with trying to "analyze" those hands is that 95% of the players at those tables have no clue what they are doing. They have never picked up a book or spent anytime trying to learn. Therefore trying to make sense of their plays is useless. And when people claim to have solid reads on these players is ridiculous. They see the person showdown a junk hand and immediatly peg them as a donk and therefore the poster claims that they knew they were ahead preflop with A2 or something like that.

Are you knocking us micro players Skribbles?.... . I like the idea of a micro section personally and I agree with Skribbles. It is hard to analize micro play because the number of donks who will often throw all in and get lucky is just crazy.

Hrms.. not to toot snoo's horn, but realistically posts like that are more like full fledge poker theory articles. It's rare that people are comfy enough to actually espouse somewhat interesting and relevant poker info beyond "This is pot odds" ... not to mention write it decently well.
I have no probs with people just asking questions here, because sometimes it leads me to question myself, but getting people to just write full length stuff is tough. I tried putting some of those on my blog, but I doubt very many ppl read those. Maybe I'll copy + paste them and write some more - I have been lazy.

Definitly not. I'm sorry if it comes off that way. I don't think that its worth playing them though. Instead of playing them, deposit $100 and play some NL25. At least there you get the majority of the table learning the game. Why would someone care about a .50 pot when that same person wouldn't waste their time to pick up .50 off the streat.
