Harrington for NL.

Slansky for limit and low stakes.

Slansky also for 7-stud.

As for titles, go to the book store and see what they have available. If you plan on buying several through the year join the Barnes and Noble club and get 10% off plus bonuses throughout the year.

Man we've been talking about poker books a lot lately haven't we?

If you've never read it, I'd suggest "The Theory of Poker" by Sklansky. There are other good books out there for specific games and stakes, but that one just plain ups your understanding of the workings of poker.

Also, my advice would be to check out prices on Amazon or something. Those poker books are pretty pricey when you buy them new at a bookstore.

Good Point TX. I probably have more wrapped up in books then I ever had in my bankroll... Laughing. Ebay is another good source to find used poker books. Barnes and Nobles online site features used books as well. If you have used book stores in your neighborhood they might be worth giving a call to. If you can get them cheap enough used you might feel like treating yourself to a couple books... Smile

Sorry, couldn't resist Twisted Evil

Harrington on Hold-em, Volume 1 & 2 are the best books I've come across so far. Well-written, not so dry and technical as Sklansky.

Also check out your local library.

harringtons book was around 22 on amazon I believe.
It says 29 on the cover, so you are definately saving buying them online.
New too by the way

The thing about Harringtons books is that they are tournament strategy books. If you play a lot of NL cash games, I would recommend ToP. It will give you a good, fundamental understanding of the basic concepts in all poker games.

I know some tournament advice can be applied to other areas as well , but is the lionshare of the info in there only about tournaments ? or are there other chapters on other aspects as well?

To my knowledge, both of Harrington's books are strictly regarding tournament play.

I'm currently reading harringtons books and they are on tournaments only. They are very good and have upped my game (i only play tournaments because when i go all-in and lose i don't lose more money on a stupid mistake).

Harrington for tournaments.

Sklansky's "small stakes hold'em" for everything under about 2/4 online.

Sklansky's "hold'em poker for advanced players" for everything 2/4 and up online.

Kain, it seems like you play mostly tournaments, so I would go with Harrington's books if I were you.

Yeah im almost done reading it after only 2 days...i cant put it down and hes got a ton of helpful info in there. Just even looking at pot odds really helps me decide whether to call or not and make sure I am getting the right odds vs. payout. I cant wait to get vol. 2
