I was down in Vegas a couple of months ago and played a couple of days in the MGM Grand poker room. I have to say that I really HATE the physical layout of the tables there. If you haven't been there yet the outside edge of the table top is a strip of marble about 7-8 inches wide. then there is a small area about 4 inches of felt before the "line" signifying the in play area. The first thing I noticed is that the cards will fly across the marble and more than once I saw cards leave the table during the deal. Also, the marble is slightly lower than the felt so if your cards stop on the edge they can tilt so that the player across from you might see what your cards are.
The worst part is what happened to me in a NL tourney one day. The rule at the MGM is that your cards cannot be on the marble, they must be on this narrow strip of felt between the marble and the line. Not a lot of room there. On one hand, I went all in from the #5 seat right across from the dealer. The players in the #6,7,8,9 seats folded and the dealer then looked at the #1 seat while grabbing the cards from the folders. He never looked at what he was doing and just continued his sweep and grabbed my cards also before I even knew what was happening. Ok, I know it's my job to protect my cards and I probably should have put my hand on them or something since I didn't have a chip protector and my chips were all in the middle but that's not my complaint here. The problem is that the layout of the tables CAUSES these kinds of problems. When your cards are required to be practically in the middle of the table in the first place and the dealers are not paying attention to what they're doing, this will happen too often. Because of the poor table layout and the very rude unprofessionsl dealers I will never play another hand of poker there. It's too bad because they do have a nice setup for the poker room in general.

I played there for about 12 hours. I never had a problem with the tables or the dealers. As a matter of fact, I really enjoyed the room and can't wait to go back.

I didn't much like the tables there either , though I didnt really dislike them. I do like when they put a line on the table , that your bet has to cross to be legal , solves a few problems very well I think.
The rooms pretty nice too - unlike many sh1tty little poker rooms I noticed on the strip. Havent been in like 7 months though , wonder what alls changed.

Screw the MGM, the new Venetian poker room opened 2 weeks ago and if it plays as nice as it looks, I won't be leaving the hotel on the next trip :D

I did wander down to Ceasars and try out their new poker room. It is very nice and very well run. The thing I like best about Ceasars is that the poker room is totally separated from the casino. You don't have a bunch of people walking by and, best of all, you don't have to listen to the constant ANNOYING music from thousands of slot machines!
I'm going back to Vegas in July so I'll check out the Venetian while I'm there.

I will see you there
Actually Caesar's and the Bellagio are two rooms I have not made a single bet in yet so I must check those out this summer. For some bizarre reason, I really like the tiny little roped off area that calls itself the poker room at Paris. It was fishy which is probably why I liked it but I think it was that it was like I was playing in the street on a warm summer night in Paris. I'm such a sucker for advertising
