My recent AC trip

Posted Sat Apr 22, 2006 3:09 am GMT by Stakehouse
Well Ive been reading these forums for over a year now but this is my first post finally!

Anyway I had a few days off from work so I decided to go to AC to play some 1-2NL and play in a tourny. I have played live poker a few times in Vegas and AC but I never played in a live tourney. So I played at the Trop the first night and ended up losing about 300 over 12 hours of play. I really only had about 400 more that I really wanted to lose and I wanted to play in the 80+20 at the Taj on Tues night, so instead of playing NL until then I played 2-4 limit. Its been awhile since I played 2-4 live and WOW the play is terrible. Mostly old guys that almost NEVER raised and would call anything. I think I only won about 25 bux over a few hours though.

So the tourney is at six so I register and wait around for it to start and I dont know what to expect really since this is my first live tourney. There ended up being 73 players. Well it was an interesting night to say the least. I played pretty tight and took down a few pots preflop mostly and was doing well and had a decent stack when this happens. I am in the BB and the UTG raises (dont remember what level it was but the blinds were getting up there). Everyone folds to a guy in late position who goes all in for maybe 5-7K chips. It gets to me and I look down at KK. I go all in ( I have both of them covered) and as the UTG is thinking what to do, the guy who went in before me says "Where are my cards?!!?" Dealer just kinda looks toward the muck like 'oh I guess I mucked them'. Apparently she went to grab his chips or something and mucked his cards! So this guy is going crazy. UTG who hasnt acted yet says"I want no part of this" and folds. So I am all in and have it heads up with KK and an opponent with no cards! So they call the floor over and he says since his hand is mucked and I had called, that I just get his whole stack!! Well this guy is just going nuts, and there is nothing he can do. I asked him what he had he said 99. I felt bad and even though I won I didnt think it was right since the dealer screwed up. I said I believed him and that Id see a flop to finish the hand but it didnt matter. Whenever your cards go into the muck it doesnt matter how they got there, thats it. So I saw the guy later after the break still arguing with them. I talk to him and he says that they gave him tickets to some BS club or show or something. I really felt bad for him. I mean I had him beat (80-20) but we still should have seen the flop. Anyway after that happened I managed to get down to last 2 tables and my chipstack was getting smaller so I started pushing all in. One key hand I got lucky on was where I had Q T vs TT and flopped a Q to double up. At this point I started getting great hands. I got AA twice in a relatively short time and one of the times I knocked out 2 players out at the once for a monstrous pot that really put me in good position to make the final table. The other AA I got a good amount of action and went all in on the turn and he folded.

One hand I wasnt involved in was pretty crazy. I think it was 10-7 vs 10-10 or something similar. Guy with 10-7 is all in he keeps saying "7's! 7's!!" and the flop comes 7-7-7!!! F*cking crazy shit. Oh and the same thing happened again with the dealer mucking someones cards preflop again!! Whats with these dealers at the Taj!? Anyway this post is a lot longer than I thought it would be.... so anyway I make it to the final table. I am happy I am getting paid at this point but I was still really going for the win and moving up to 8th or 7th wont really do that much for me and top 3 is where the money is. So with the blinds getting so big I was playing aggressively and picking up pots and putting smaller stacks all in and I get to be the chip leader or very close to it. It gets down to 3 handed and 2 of us are short stacked with the chip leader with a massive chip lead. We end up making a deal where both me and the other shortstack get around 2nd place money and the Chip leader gets 300 less than first, so he got about 2000, I got 1240(100 less that 2nd place prize) and the other guy gets 1140. I think it was a good deal for us considering how shortstacked we were and 3rd place was about 700. Blinds were high too so any move I made would be all in most likely. So any way in my first ever live tournament I NEVER got knocked out!!(even though I didnt win) Its kinda funny b/c I usually do not do too well in online tourneys, and even though I did get some good hands, I think I played very well and felt very comfortablte the whole time. I think I may have one every pot I did without a showdown either(except the all in pots). So anyway I am definitely going to start playing in more live tourneys. I know I cant expect to win them as easily as this one was but it was so much fun. I felt like the people in the tourney were more fun and more friendly than in the cah games which kind of surprised me. I know this post was kinda long but I guess I am making up for not ever posting and just reading all of the good info you guys always provide!

I had a set of 2's last night heads up.. the guy I was playing against raised the blinds up from 2 to 12.. I was the only caller the flop came out 6 9 2.. I bet 15$ and he had his cards infront of his chips on the table and chips in his hand to call the dealer took it as a fold and pulled the cards towards him, they hit the muck and it was a dead hand.. he had A 9 and I had a set of 2's he wasnt able to play his hand even though I said it was ok.. Really sucked because he was a big stack of about 700 and I would of taken down a nice pot because he liked the A9 .. it sucked but I wound up taking a few hundred from him a few hands later with pocket q's to his 10's..

its not the dealers fault, any hand unprotected is the players fault. Ive seen it happen many diff ways, from dealer mucking them, to the player next across from them, tossing their cards in and toss them to hard, and right into another players hands. rules state those hands are dead. Thats why its very important to have your hand protected, from a single chip sitting on them, to a lucky charm you own, but use something, so they cant be mucked with out you doing it on your own.

whooo

when the dealer kills your hand and the other guy is like "LET HIM PLAY LET HIM PLAY"

That's a symbol you were perhaps in a bad position.
