Drove down to our local Native American Gaming center for a little Gaming..... I was expecting a poker room full of well versed players as this "casino" gets little tourist play. To my great suprise, There were not many players at my table who knew much about Hold em. I was able to bring my initial buyin to 2.5x in 3 hours playing 3/6 kill. I was a Victim of the string raise. I Had JJ in the pocket. Flop comes J89. Very possible straight, and a tight player bets into me. Fourth comes 8. He bets 6. I grab as many chips as my little hands can hold, about 9, put some on the table and say "raise". The dealer informs me that this is a string raise since i didnt have the chips in my hand when i went to the table. GRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!! So, the dude checks the river, i bet and he calls with the straight to my boat. That crappy string cost me at least 2 big bets and maybe more...... oh well it was fun.
Did you know that participating in a poker forum can help you improve your own game? Be it by sharing experiences or simply asking for help, participation in a forum helps you focus and keep 'on topic' which will help you improve your game. You can learn from other players feedback and from their experiences. Why the THP poker forums? We offer one of the best managed texas holdem poker forums available, and the community within is far more friendly than those typicaly found on other sites. We've made a 'lurkers edition' of the poker forum available here on Holdem Poker Online, but we encourage all visitors to register and join in on the conversations on TexasHoldem-Poker.com

Its good to hear that you had a great time and sat at a table that was more on your level- that is really good. But, Native American Gaming Center??? Just call it a Indian Reservation Casino- no offense, but if I loss at a casino... I better be able to call it what ever I want, politically correct or not! I'm in Chicago and you see all walks of life in card rooms here. I've sat next to Pimps, Pro's, Junkies, Millionaires, a handless player (that was interesting), and even played with Joe Pesci and Stan Mikita- at the same table (weird)! You will find that the game really draws people who would ordinarily never associate with each other. Have Fun and Good Luck.

Cool man, You actually played with Stanislaus Gvoth better known as Stan Mikita....
Not many people can say they have played poker with a NHL MVP, scoring leader, Stanley Cup Champ who won the Art Ross, Hart Memorial and Lady Byng trophies, all in one season.

Honestly- I had no idea who he was until another player asked him. It was a couple of years ago and he had some major problems... He was hammered and had trouble picking up the cards. I've heard he's an alcoholic- but this was disgusting. Pesci, who sat down later in the night, didn't say a single word to anybody. He was a little strange. Didn't make eye contact with anyone, nor did he even declare "Raise" or "Call." I even asked the Poker Room Manager if that was him because he was so ackward.
PS- I' don't know about Big Trouble In Little China??? Seen it and don't remember the quote in the movie. In Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome, the "Pig Killer" character is the one who coins the phrase while in the swine farm under Bartertown.
