Decided I wanted to play some live poker last night, but I obviously don't want to put any of my ring game roll at risk as I am not bankrolled for $2/$4. This is the reason for my tourney/fun money roll. I withdrew $120 and off I went to Chumash Casino, 1.5-2 hours away.
The smallest stakes they have for limit is a $2/$4 limit kill game. if someone wins 2 pots in a row the blinds are still $1/$2 but it is $3 total to see the flop as the stakes go to $3/$6. The One of the first hands I got was low and behold AA which got cracked by a 9-10s LOL.
I was not even aware about the bad beat jackpot as I was there to play poker and thought of nothing else such as jackpots. In the future, in live play, I will make sure I know all the features the room offers. I was there playing maybe a half hour at mostwhen I got JJ in EP, UTG I believe. After the river there were three queens on the board and the girl that had cracked my aces, her name was Debbie, bets out. The very hand before this one the guy to her right had quad aces. I was saying to myself "No Queen, no queen, no queen. Sure enuf, she flipped over the fourth queen. I was simply going to muck but the dealler looks at me, askes me if I had a pair. I nodded and he said turn it over. I thought it was unusual for a dealer to instruct me to do this, but my live play is limited so I did. My beat of queens full of Jacks qualified me for the mini bad beat jackpot. and the mini gets 10% of the total jackpot which at the time was $3240. I got $324!!! Yesssssssssss!!!!
I really enjoyed playing and I have no doubt my "prefessional" career will be played live. The feel of the chips, the interaction with the people, who were really great people to play with I might add, just everything about it was awesome. At one point I was uo 10 big bets but I lost the winnings. I was there to have fun and enjoy myself and I saw a few flops I ordinarily wouldn't A5o on the button. J9s from EP A7o after there were 4 or 5 limpers in front of me. Nothing totally drastic mind you, but 3 or 4 hands in 3 hours that could be considered questionable.
I had sat in with $100 25 big bets and that was going to be my stop loss. After 3 or 3.5 hours of play I ended up with a profit of $2 of the $100 I sat in with and of course the $324 bad beat mini jackpot. Ordered some food and bought the girl that helped me get the bad beat jackpot something to eat as well. Figured it was the least I could do. Thank you so much for having that fourth queen.

no shit? Where do you live man , or pm me if you like. I used to live in thousand oaks before i moved - I've been to the chumash probably a hundred times. Played MANY A MANY hours there and never got a mini jackpot but i did help give 2 other people a mini jackpot lol.
also , yes live play is far superior to online play - if you ignore rake and tipping the dealer. The feel of the chips , SEEING your opponents - poker is a wonderful game played live.

I'm right through the canyon from Thousand Oaks, I go to Pepperdine. I've been to Chumash a couple times, didn't really impress me that much but its not too shabby either.
