Wow, that's a lot of diamonds. You were right in your comment. You made the right read. I hate those hands when I make the right read and still don't fold/call/raise. I get so mad at myself.

For future reference, when I get to those tables where there is always someone raising preflop, I either sit tight and wait for a monster or go to another table. Don't play into their game. A lot of players will raise many hands preflop just to get this reaction.

That right there is bad poker.

I'm sure you know better, but pots getting raised preflop every time is no excuse to start playing crappy cards. People raising it up every time preflop has no effect on what cards you get dealt.

Watching people raise it up preflop every hand and not getting anything to play with is frustrating. Especially when you see them playing crap often. Remember that when people are doing this though, you're going to get bigger pots (usually) when you do have a good hand.

When you play bad cards and are lucky enough to hit a flop, often times you're still going to lose; and it's most likely going to be expensive for you when you do.

I agree with everybody. The only power in your starting cards (barring a monster flop) is in making a flush. There is a 6% chance of getting EXACTLY 3 more cards to your suit by the river. (Four is bad as a pocket AKJQ beats you--I lost a big hand at Binions when the fourth club came out on the river and the pocket ace stole my pot, but I'd started with KT suited).

Your situation, making exactly 3 cards AND having somebody with higher hole cards in the same suit is unusual but also happens.

But the biggest problem is that 94% of that time you end up with nothing (minus the chance of a wonder flop). You'll give away your chips playing these. Ditto with unsuited middle connectors.

I live with Sklansky, Miller, and Malmuth's dictum: Power comes from suitedness, connectedness, and high card value, and you need two of these features to play a hand.

Enough lecturing. Go forth and sin no more.

King...your playing $0.05-$0.10 NL TH. A good player will raise often if they have a hand to raise with. Lee Jones states in his book that you should raise with good hands like AX, PP, pp and suited connectors even, depending on your position. The best strategy is play like everyone else. Raise when you have a good hand or a good hand with good position.
Raising any 2 suited cards is just crazy. That kind of play will cost you dearly over the long haul.
