Skribbles' Journal

So what the heck. After taking a few weeks off I'm back on the wagon. This time I fully intend to play within my bankroll. As I've posted a few times before, I go broke every month or so by playing WAY too high of stakes for my bankroll to support.

Well Friday night at about 3am, I had way too many drinks in me so I figured it would be a good time to make another deposit. I threw $200 in my Party account and sat down at a couple NL100 tables. Not realy sure how long I played for as I passed out while playing, but I woke up to find that I had made $75.

I had nothing to do Saturday so I put in a very long session. I started back at my NL100 games. I lost a buy-in right away when I hit a set of 8's on a flop of JT8. Guy to my right was being super aggresive and I figured he had top 2. Well, all the money went in and he had flopped a str8 w/ Q9 and I didn't improve.

A few more hours play NL100 and I was sitting with $300 in my account. So doing the smart thing I open up a NL200 table and play in the $22 $40k guranteed MTT on Party... more on the tourny later.

Playing the NL200 I took a new approach. Normally playing ring games I am very patient and wait for a monster hand where I can stack someone. With my bankroll being short I decided to hit and run. I'd stay at a table until I was up between $50-100 then take off to a different table. I did this at 5 different tables and my bankroll was sitting at $500~.

The MTT I was playing during this time was plugging along as usual. I had managed to keep myself at about the average chip count for the entire tourny. With about 100 people left I was dealt 77 on the button. A guy from MP raises it up to about 3xBB. I was debating pushing here and hoping to steal the pot but opted to just call and see what the flop brought. Well it came 346. A pretty decent flop for 77. Picked up a few more outs and if he didn't have a PP I was way ahead. He checked to me and I bet out half my stack. Sure enough, he check/raises me allin. I'm forced to call as I would be extremely short stacked if I folded. He flips JJ. Shit. Turn 5. Beautiful. So I double up.

I got a pretty cold run of cards for the next hour. I managed to steal a few blinds but was getting short. With 25 people left I only had 5BB left when I hit the BB. MP raised it up to pretty much cover what I had. Looking down at AJ I figured now was the best time. I had a gut feeling that I was dominated but really didn't have much of a choice left, and I wanted to win this tourny and not just place. Long story short, I should have folded. He flipped AK and I didn't catch up.

So 5 hours of tourny play later I profit $200. Not too bad but I would have really liked to have finished top 5 which is always my goal.

At this point my bankroll is sitting at $700~. I open up 2 tables of NL200 and go on a massive rush. One of the first hands at the table I'm dealt KK. I raise it up to $10 and get a caller from a guy who had just sat down and posted out of position. Flop comes K62. I bet out $15 and he calls. Turn A. I fire out $45 and he raises to $90. I tank it for a few seconds the push all-in. He quickly calls and flips A2!!! That was a quick $200. Couple hands later I get JTs from early position. I limp in, guy beside me min-raises which I had seen him do before with KK. A few callers and I call. Flop comes K92 w/ the K of my suit. Blind leads out for $4 into a pot of $20. I call and again asshat beside me min-raises. Everyone folds to the guy that opened. He calls, so do I. Turn Q. Muahaha! Hit my gutshot and picked up a royal draw. Blind checks, I bet out $25 expecting asshat to minraise again. Yup... he did. SB folds and I raise guy another $50. He just calls this time. River is a rag, and I put guy all in. He calls and flips a horribly played AA.

After those couple hands, every at the table seemed to stay away from me. I hit some great hands over the next hour or so but no one would call my raises. I took down alot of pots because of this and made alot of "bluffs" because no one wanted a piece of me.

After about 12 hours of playing its 4am and time for bed. I had a little over $1600 in my account... +$1325, not bad for a days work. I withdrew $800+ to leave myself exactly $800 to play with.

So I started this post by saying that I was going to play within my bankroll. What I really meant to say was that I'm not playing any higher than NL200 until I have 10 buy-ins for NL400. I know that this is above what most people consider to be properly bankrolled but I just can't stand playing anything lower. I've already cashed out 4x what I bought in for so all is not lost if I bust out again.

Hopefully posting my progress here will keep me inline.

Cheers

So I guess its time that I update this.

After my last post I did what I decided that it would be smart for me to play some NL400. It went good for about a day then I dropped a buy-in and was down to about $500. So I sat at a couple NL200 tables... got sucked out horribly on one of them and tilted the rest away on another. So I went broke again. What a shock. I netted about $1000 off my buy-in of $100 so at least I had something to show. Still really pissed about not staying within my bankroll constraints.

After that I took a break for a for about a month then threw down $50 on Pacific to qualify for the WSOP sat. Played my 20 SNGs and made a solid $9. I really don't know how people can play these and expect a profit. All it takes is a donk to get lucky and you're done. Very frustrating.

Since I absolutely hate the Pacific GUI I withdrew my money and deposited $100 back into Party yesterday. Being the proper bankroll manager I am, I sat down with that $100 at a NL100 table. Played good for about 2 hours and nickle and dimed my way up to about $250. I can't recall a pot I won that was over $30. Usually my game is to sit and wait for a monster and then stack some poor, unsuspecting donk. I was extremely pleased with my play.

So today I worked from home (I LOVE IT!) and played poker most of the day. I ran my bankroll to about $300 (+$50 for the day) then started a $10 MTT w/ 653 entrants. First hour went by with me winning a hand. I was down to 2000TC from the starting 3000TC. Second hour I double up a couple times and was sitting just under 10,000TC... a little bit above the average stack. 3rd hour I was on fire. Got some big hands and made nice plays and was chip leader going into the 4th hour. I lost a couple hands early on and was down to about 10th place with 50 people left. From there I really didn't get much to play with. I busted out a shortie to keep my head above water for awhile but when the final table hit I was 2nd shortest. I managed to hand on and actually triple up at one point when my QTs beat AA and KT when I hit a flush. With 6 players left I was in the small blind (8000/16000) and only had 90000TC left. It folded to the cutoff who min-raised. I had ATs and decided he was on a steal. I pushed, he called. AT vs AK. Game Over. 6th place for $290~.

I'm getting really frustrated with my MTT finished. I've made 10 final tables now since the year began, out of about 25 tournys) and have yet to place higher than 5th. Nothing has been wrong with my play... that I know of. A couple times its been suckouts... the last two have been my decent hands running into AK and not improving.

So here I sit playing two tables of NL100 with my $800 bankroll. My goal.... and I sure as f.uck hope I can stick to it this time, is to not move up to NL200 until I have at least $1500 in my bankroll. I know its still under bankrolled but $100 really means nothing to me so I have a tough time taking the game seriously.

Hopefully I can keep this thread updated a little more. For me to do that... I have to keep winning and stay within reasonable limits.

Cheers

For the first time in about a month I ventured back to the casino for some late night drunking poker playing. Started the day off by heading out for a round of golf at a course on an Indian reserve. Well this reserve was dry so needless to say, they don't sell beer on the course. The great thing though, they told us we could bring our own! Long story short, it was a hell of a good time.

After that it was out for a few pounds of wings then to a club. Did that till about 2:30am then it was time to hit up the poker.

Third hand of the night I'm dealt 77 in the SB. Its raised to $15 pre-flop and 5 saw the flop. JT7. Hit my set. I check, 2 more check, LP bets $25, button calls, I pop it to $75 and both call. Turn was a rag. I pushed in for my last $100~ and get one caller. Not sure what he had but he mucked and looked pretty pissed off.

Few hands later I took down a $150 pot with a set a fours. I kinda got out of line and this one. Should have be able to stack the guy but I scared him of with a big turn raise.

Very hand after that I picked up JJ in LP. UTG opens for $20, one guy in the middle calls and I call. Flop J42. Beauty. UTG does pulls out the stupidest move possible.... he pushes! Other guy folds and I quickly call his extreme overbet. Pot was only $65 at this point and his push was for $250. Moron. I take it down and he almost started crying because I cracked his AA.

The rest of the night played out fairly un-eventfull and I managed to walk out up about five or six hundred... at 8:30am.

Not using my freakin head, I had forgot about the WSOP sat. the next morning. Sure enough I wake up at noon, fire up the laptop and see that I have 650 chips left with 100/200 blinds. Get AT, push it, and I'm out.

All in all, a good weekend. Going to be putting a long session online tonight provided I don't go golfing...

Cheers

So I guess I'm due for another update. And yup... I'm pretty much broke again! This time by choice though.

When I last posted I had just jumped back online and had a bankroll of about $800 (July 2nd). After a week of playing I had run it up to about $1500 which I promptly took out a $500 for a new HD receiver. After that I floated from between $1k to $1.5K for the next week with nothing really spectacular happening.

On July 6th I took of to my parents place for a couple weeks holidays, and my sisters wedding. Didn't figure I'd play much at home because my dad usually makes me log in so he can play SNGs with my money.

The first night I get in their is a big party at my parents place with all the relatives. My uncle grabs me halfway thru the night to show him how to play online. So we sit down at the computer and I opened up 2 NL400 tables. Within 25 minutes I was up $450! He pretty much decided after that he was going to deposit a few bucks and give it a shot.

Next day was the wedding but I'm not going to get into that. All I'll say is that I was completely shitfaced. Wedding till 1am. Bar till 3am. House party till 5am. Then the poker began....

Went over to a buddies to have a late night "smoke". Buddy always likes to watch me play poker so I fire up a couple NL400 (bankroll at $1600~) games while we relax. I quickly double and then close off one of the NL400 tables and open a NL1000 table. Shortly there after, I double up again on the NL400 table... and of course, I close it off and the play 2 tables of NL1000.

I don't remember any of the hands through out the session but I do remember cashing out $2K that night leaving myself my original $1600 bankroll... and quit playing at 11:30am.

The next few days weren't so good. My $1600 slowly dwindled down to $1000 and I could sense the tilt coming so I pulled out another $800.

To be continued... gotta run.
