So , I was at the table for a badbeat jackpot tonight! |

330$ table share , not tooooo bad. If it had been 3 weeks ago , when the jackpot was 24,000 I woulda won about 2000$ - but hey , can't complain!
But man , the lady who had the high hand - told me she had been playing poker for 1 month...... she JUST SAT DOWN AND ON HER VERY FIRST HAND riveres a k high str8 flush ( other lady had the low end of the str8 flush ). Some people - all the luck She even told me she won 70,000$ last year playing some sort of phantasy 5 lottery or another. crazyness!
Was a ncie lady though , and it was a very fun table. I've been playing in B&M casinos for about 5 years , about time i got a piece of a jackpot! I've been 2 or 3 tables over from jackpots probably a dozen times.
And to think , i almost went to the ebach first THEN poker , but last minute the weather got shitty so i went to teh casino first. Even more funny , some guy who is ALWAYS playing the 1-2 limit , had left the table 2 hands before the jackpot......and he was sitting in the winner chair ( the k high str8 flush ) ..... tlak about ouch!
and heres one final funny part - a lady sits down as the seat had JUST opened. She gets dealt 1 hand , then floorman asks her " do you want the 2-4 seat? " she says " yea , give me 2-4 ....besides the jackpot is bigger there " lol! She also would have been in the winning seat for 1200$
Gave the dealer 10% - 30$
Boy did that turn a crappy trips into a good one. My very first two hands i got dealt , i bet the flop bet the turn check call the river , the same guy rivered me twice a flush and a str8 Crappy start , then before the jackpot hand , i was maybe 2 and a half hours into it and i had literally only won 1 pot.
By the time the night was through , i should have been up 20$ ( at a no fold-em hold-em table thats not bad for 1-2 ) but i came into a tough spot.
A8s and flop came 8810 and i lost to 108o.
So for the night i came up 5$ and i actually ended up keeping the 5$ chips as a souvineer of the first jackpot i ever was apart of.
fun night ! Dont forget to tip your dealer

I hit a bad bead last October and let me tell you, I never yelled and screamed so loud in a public place before. It was 2nd time i ever been at a casino. I had aces full of tens and dude who I might add was his first hand (he just sat down) and beat me on he river with his aces full of kings. My cut 16k

I kissed the dealer!
It was, after all, a moment of unbridled exuberance. But I though, damn, they will definately see that when they run the tape on this downstairs before paying us. Fortunately she was unfazed, had no complaint, and no one seemed to mind.

It would have sucked if you'd been where I played in Shreveport. The jackpot requires Aces full of tens to be beaten by quads or better. So boat vs. boat doesn't count

Actualy it's worse than that at Resorts outside Chicago: Aces full have to lose, and both players must use BOTH cards in their hand. So say your quad 5's lose and you hold 56 suited. If the board has any card higher than a 5, your six doesn't play and the hand doesn't qualify.
Now that's nuts, of course, because the 5th card in any poker hand containing quads can't possibly matter, since nobody ever has the strength of his quads decided by his "kicker" (unless you're playing with wild cards). The rule is just an arbitrary and artificial device to make the pot higher by making it harder to qualify.

Yea but with the stricter rules it males it so its not hit as much and jackpot is much richer for that one guy. I happen to get it when it went on a long streak of not getting hit and it usually here only gets total to 20k. Mine happen to be 32k so I got half which was 16k. Its normaly not that high like I was saying. Some casinos have it quads is minimal hand to have to get beaten. Heard stories of pots getting into 6 digits, imagine hitting that bad boy.

when i first started going to the casino it was at 170k, so someone took down half of that.

If the quads are on the board, the kicker sure matters. That would be an interesting bad beat if you didn't have to use both cards.
Quad aces with a q kicker, beat by quad aces with a k kicker.

In most jackpots, you need to use both hole cards, so the only time a kicker will matter is if the hands are:
J5
66
board JJJ66
In this case, quad 6s lose to quad Js but the 5 does not play-so no jackpot.

Why do you have to use the best possible hand? Can't you use a 5 card hand that qualifies?

Almost in every casino you have to use your 2 hole cards. For example alot of bad beats are aces full over tens have to be beat in one way or another. So if the board shows ACE, ACE, 10, 10, queen, and one guy has ace and other guy has ace queen it wil not work. Because first guy only has ace and uses the rest of the board. It makes it so there are no cheap baad beats and thickens the pot which I like. At the casino here the bad beat got taken out of the Omaha cause those jerks hit it every week. Alot of old folks complained but come on in Omaha every hand is a monster pretty much.

I was only responding to mindgames general post that the strength of quads are not dependent on the kicker. If he was ONLY talking about bad beats that's true because of using both hole cards, but in general play it it not true.
