We are holding a FREE tournament at PacificPoker for a WSOP Main event seat exclusively for TexasHoldem-Poker.com readers like you! The tournament will take place on EDIT: SATURDAY, JULY 1ST at 1 PM EDT. Go to our Free WSOP Satellite page for more details. Registration ends on June 21st at midnight.
We're very excited about this tournament...frankly it could quite possibly be the best way to get into the wsop main event w/o dropping big bucks
btw, this is *not* a league tournament, as I'm sure the 10k prize would throw the standing all of whack
I'm sure there will be plenty of questions...please ask them here
We've moved the tournament from Tuesday, June 27th to Saturday, July 1st to make it more convenient for people, sorry for the change
Another note, the prize is non-transferable, i.e. you can't sell it.
Did you know that participating in a poker forum can help you improve your own game? Be it by sharing experiences or simply asking for help, participation in a forum helps you focus and keep 'on topic' which will help you improve your game. You can learn from other players feedback and from their experiences. Why the THP poker forums? We offer one of the best managed texas holdem poker forums available, and the community within is far more friendly than those typicaly found on other sites. We've made a 'lurkers edition' of the poker forum available here on Holdem Poker Online, but we encourage all visitors to register and join in on the conversations on TexasHoldem-Poker.com

This tournament is confirmed and guaranteed regardless of how many people sign up...also we may have a way to auto-kick anybody who is afk after the first blind level (or so) so that we don't have too many ppl who signup (and qualify) and dont play...still waiting to hear back about that part...altho w/ this prize pool, i can't really see anybody forgetting about it
Posted Thu May 18, 2006 6:47 pm GMT by UrAteUp
Hey do we have to deposit to get signed up? If so what the min. deposit? I would love to be a part of this and face great players like Skribbles, you Sid, Ages, Phil and anyone else who plays. One warning though. I don't loose to many tournaments..
Posted Thu May 18, 2006 6:50 pm GMT by TxShadow
You have to play 20 tournaments with a buy-in of at least $10. SnGs and Multis count, but HU tournies do not.
That could get pricey
And man, I really hope a forum regular wins this thing and not some Joe Schmoe that signs up just to do it and then bails.

2. To qualify, players must play at least 20 tournaments at PacificPoker between May 18th and June 21st at midnight where the buyin is at least $10. These tournaments can be sit-and-go's or multi-table tournaments, but not heads up. This registration page will no longer be available after midnight on June 21st.

You must be a real money player, cuz you must play at least 20 tournaments between now and june 21st at midnite...so i suppose that means you must deposit (or already have deposited), or somehow have gotten real money in yer account...cuz yer gonna need money in yer account in order to play those 20 tournaments...
as far as minimum deposit goes...I dont know wut the minimum deposit on pacific is...i think it depends on which service you use to deposit...lemme get back to you on this...as far as this tournament goes, it doesnt matter how much you deposited with tho, so long as you play at least 20 tournaments with a buyin of $10 or more that arent heads up
unfortunately I cannot play...you hafta admit it mite look bad if i won

Do we have to specifically sign up for pacific through one of your links or can we already have an account on there?
Posted Thu May 18, 2006 10:32 pm GMT by Carson Cashman
The event is open to all users, whether they registered through a link on this site or not.
If you don't already have an account, please use the link on the tournament registration page. The more users we sign up, the more likely we can run these events again in the future.
Also to clarify, you may register before you complete the 20 tournaments. We will send a list of names to PacificPoker on June 21st, and all players who have played 20 sng's or mtt's between may 18th and june 21st will be given a seat in the WSOP satellite.

Is this for the 10k buy in main event?
Would it be possible to suggest doing this in the future with multiple events, I'd love to go play in the razz event at wsop
And is this a pacific poker event IE can ANYONE from pacific poker who has played in 20 tournies join up for this , or how is this a THP specific tournie.
Would this allow for anyone with 1 post count from here to sign up at pacific and participate I take it? Or how about only people with .....*pauses a second and glances at his post count*...... 396 posts or more can sign up

Anyone who plays 20 tournies or sng's (not heads up) of atleast $10 buyin each will be eligable.
Its THP specific because we collect the usernames of people who will be eligable. And yes, anyone, even new members, may join.

complex question,
I see pacific has a 100$ sign up bonus and if i recall correctly pacific lets you play with the sign up bonus immedietly.
Would there be a restriction if i sign'd up - got the bonus 100$ - used only the bonus to play my 20 10$+ tournies and cashed out the rest then played the tournie.
-delete this post if that is answered in the FAQ , ill go read it now

No - you can register and then play the 20. If you don't make the 20 before the deadline, you will be automatically unregistered and ineligible.

Oh, I'm sure I would, but its priority in the "list of things to do before I die" has dropped quite a bit, at least for me. The HORSE tourney is going to be the measuring stick before too long anyway, and I guess I've just been playing long enough now that the allure of a "world championship" doesn't mean that much in a game where luck plays such a huge role over the short term.
I know. Blasphemous.

So if you have already qualified for wsop somewhere else.. don't bother

That is a long-weekend stat holiday (Canada Day) in Canada. That would be like having it on the 4th of July if you want the American equivelant. That would probably be one of the worst days to have it for anyone north of the border.

I seem to remember a huge discussion (elsewhere) because WPT were holding an event on some jewish holiday.
Some people were actually accusing WPT of being anti-semitic (of course)
Most major tourneys online are held overnight my time, that is my problem, i either play or i don't, no point complaining about it.
Sure by all means try and accomodate people but basically, at the end of the day, a decision should be made as to when the tourney should be held, if people can't play because it's a workday/canadian holiday/chad independance day/christmas then that is THEIR choice and they can't really complain.

But it was on a Tuesday afternoon! I know it's not "chic" but some of us do have to work. We're not all college students on summer break.
Hell, make it July 4th. I don't mind playing on a holiday. At least I'll be home.

No, it's some ladies top. I'd never heard of it til Adam said my choice was a raglan or a kick in the nuts so I chose a raglan and he never delivered. Please kick him in the nuts while chanting the word raglan for me next time you see him Sid

I would certainly think that a Saturday, holiday or no, would be more convenient for the majority of the people that are doing this. I'm not trying to piss you off, but I know I was going to have to take a day off of work to play, and I'm sure just about everyone else was going to have to do the same.
Posted Tue May 23, 2006 9:16 pm GMT by Fat Tony
Adding rational comments to the conversation even if they don't agree with my own will never piss me off. zinn0 was intentionally trying to irritate me and thus was told to shut-up.
I think the original weekday date was in a lot of ways better, but that wasn't really the point. Why pick a MAJOR holiday when you are re-scheduling something? I doubt that the July 1st date was the only option, either the weekend before or after would have been perfectly viable options.

I am now willing to play for anyone on their account for them, if they wish. Prices are negotiable. PM.
If necessary, I could also play the sngs for anyone at a 50/50 profit cut.
PM ME.

Getting out of work on a weekday is no problem.
Not going to the cabin (with no 'net access) on a long weekend IS a problem.
If people can't manage one day off from work... how would they manage a week off if they win???

In my experience so far, the play on these $10 SnG's has been rediculously horrible. Ton of min-betting/raising going on, and most of the people I've come up against have been very loose/passive.

these tourneys wont take long.
Posted Sat May 27, 2006 9:51 pm GMT by Icec0o1
Yeah, took me 4 sng's to figure it out. People are extremely loose and I was having a bad run of cards so I tried doing some of my best bluffs and they were all getting called so I thought people figured me out...
I stopped bluffing almost alltogether and got a 1st and 2nd in two tourneys for +$58 to get me into the positives. Should have had two firsts but my queens fell victim to 84 off suit which caught a 4 on the river for two pair.
7/20...almost halfway done with plenty of time to spare.

going to do a little challenge for myself and see what i can win/lose just in the 20 sngs i am playing on pacific.
here are my results so far:
pacific $10+$1 10 man sngs:
1 - 3rd
2 - 3rd
3 - 3rd
4 - 5th
5 - 5th
6 - 4th
7 - 5th
8 - 3rd
$8 down so far. still, got 12 more to go.
i like pacific alot more now. they have done soem really good software updates since i last played there. the software does not crash and you can multi table. players seem nice and weak. i may even start playing here on a regular basis. there is some really good mtt;s on there too like the $10k gt'd ones etc.
nice.
even if i dont win the wsop seat (doubtful ) there seems to be some easy money on pacific and its making a nice change from playing on vcpoker all the time.
cheers thp admins/bosses/whoever.

I have finished ITM on 12/15. Only 5 were 10 table, the others were 5 or 6 table. One was speed on where you started w/ 3k in chips and blinds went up after every hand-that was interesting.
I also had one where I couldnt act before getting disconnected. It went on for the entire tourney. I complained and rec'd a full refund.
I made one final table of a multi. However, I busted out at the same time as another-do I never actually saw the final table, but I did finish 10th.

14 tourneys down. 6 to go. $46 to the good thanks to winning my last two games.
will there be a way of finding out if we have properly registered for this tourney? i would hate for my registration to like, not get processed or soemthing.

Posted Tue May 30, 2006 3:30 pm GMT by Sid Lambert
I hoped for some kind of warning system to be in place a couple days before the cutoff date, so that we could send an email out to everybody saying something like "You have played in 19 of 20 tournaments, and you have 5 more days to play that last one"...but unfortunately, this is not possible, as PacificPoker has a lot of promotions going on and wutnot...late june is a busy time for the poker industry.
However, after the cutoff, we will send out a confirmed entrants list, and email everybody that made it, and possibly email everybody that didn't make it.
So unfortunately, you'll have to make certain on your own that you played in the correct amount of tournaments...remember, 20 tournaments of $10 or more buyin, sit and go or multi table tournaments, real money obviously, and heads up tourneys don't count.
Posted Tue May 30, 2006 3:41 pm GMT by NickHow
Played 14, down $14. Had a slow start (due to not having played in months). Started to get back into the groove and done better recently. Been rivered badly in the last 2 when heads-up (Although I was down to 37 with blinds at 25/50 in the last one)

I thought the heads-up tournies didn't count because the fee was only $.50. If I were a betting man, I'd wager that it's any tourney that generates an entry fee of $1 or more.

Anyone play the 5 seat $10+1 where the blinds increase EVERY hand and you have 10 seconds to act or you get folded? They are a blast and finish faster than a heads up tourney. Played 5, won 3 took 3rd once. (Pays 1-2 $35/$15) I'll admit it's almost all luck, but pretty fun.

On the 4th place the blinds had gotten rediculously high for 800 starting chips and my 66 lost to AJ when he spiked an Ace on the river.
My last second place I should have finished first. I had come from behind to take the chip lead and my opponent started the all-in every hand with a fold every once in a while. He took a small chip lead when he double up with 6 10 vs. A3s and took the rest of my chips with K 10 vs. my A9 of diamonds. Oh well.

It will have been extremely worth it for the winner. That I can promise.
Of your 220 loss...
Do not take offense to my coming suggestion (I'm just stating the obvious): perhaps you need put in some concentrated time in on some more sngs and mtts: to have played 20 sngs without popping the bubble...
20 behind you means you're in. Now look at how to come away with the seat. Such poor results of those sngs indicates you better look real close at your game if you want this prize.

Just clarifying what he's saying:

No, those who register have no post quota to have met: it could be their first time at thp... nothing to do with forum/thp accounts. It's open to everyone.
Surely you've seen such tourneys before: they're the ones listed in the lobby with restricted signups. If you register for the tourney here, you'll then be eligible to enter it (restriction lifted, so long as the required plays have been made).

I mean, if someone has played that much already, in say the last month, can they then signup with no problems, or do the tournament plays have to be between signup and the tournament?

If the site is paying out $10,000 to the player, then you could conceivably make a deal.
As it is, I don't think they're doing that. However, it wouldn't surprise me very much if once it gets down to 2 or 3-handed that a deal is made for a percentage of any ME winnings regardless of who goes. I know I plan on suggesting it.
WHO WANTS A PIECE O' ME?

Say you get to heads up with a decent, but not unsurmountable chip lead, and you really don't want to lose the seat. If a deal is possible, you can offer to buy out the other guy. Basically, you'd be getting a main event seat for that highly discounted price.

I am unofficially qualified. Tally now is:
1 10th -11
2 8th -22
4 7th -44
3 6th -33
1 5th -11
2 4th -22
1 3rd +10
4 2nd +80
3 1st +120
~+65
My first 6 tourneys had no places and my last six had no places. Maybe now would be a good time to stop? hehe
The last tourney I played took my worst beat. Pocket T's w/ 44T flop. Get all his money in when the turn brought an Ace. Up against Axo.
Of course the River brings an Ace and I lose boat over boat. I ended up tilting off the last few hundred of my chips on the next hand.

doesn't matter when you sign up...if you have played 20 tournies between May 18th and June 21st (dates inclusive) then you are qualified....so theoretically, if somebody not even aware of the big tournament had played 20 games between may 18th and june 21st, and then happened upon this site on june 21st anytime before midnight, and signed up, that person would be able to play in the tournament.
As far as talks about splitting the prize...Pacific has stated that the prize is non-transferable...meaning you cannot sell it....so if you plan on making some kind of deal when its heads up or so, remember that you will not be able to sell the seat...
Sorry, I'm still waiting to hear back about whether or not the short-handed games count towards your 20 tournaments....hopefully i'll find out today

When it's HU or 3 handed one player could offer to purchase his opponents' chips.
For example if it's HU me vs. Sean, Sean could give me a few hundred bucks for my half of the chips and Sean would get the seat. If I end up playing someone else HU they could give me a few thousand.

If I qualify through here or anywhere else, I would try to find 50 investors at $100 a pop to invest in 1% of and prize money.
That would get me a cool $5k to pay for my trip plus some play money and I would still keep 1/2 of any Varkoni streak.
Posted Mon Jun 05, 2006 4:18 pm GMT by JohnnyCache
That was my thought. I know 10 or 15 local business men who think I'm some sort of poker witch whereas I feel they, conversely, have a near mystical ability to make and hold money during the day when no games are running. :D
A $100 bet on a long shot is a lunch to them. . .

Alright good news, short-handed tournaments count towards your 20 tournaments
also, we will check the list of the players signed up prolly about a week before the the deadline, so we can clear up any signups where ppl mistyped or entered the wrong username/email addy, then we'll let everybody who signed up know about any errors via email and use that as a reminder as well

I'm sorry, but we already changed the date once...I wish we would have been more careful while choosing the tournament date...next time we'll be sure to more carefully consider holidays...we honestly didn't know it was canadian holiday, as we are not trying limit canadians from playing or anything like that...I'm sure every day is a holiday to somebody, but we obviously could've done a better job picking the date...also, despite knowing that it was a holiday, its possible we would've picked that day anyhow due to the timeframe of leading up to the world series allows only a few weekends

I'm sorry but this response is about as lame as it gets. Why cant you move it back 1 week to the 24th? or up 1 week? This oh every weekend could be a holiday thing ... oh please. I signed up for the deal and blew 100 bucks at pacific completing it before you changed the date, and this is an absolute slap in the face to canadians on this board.
You were able to change the date once for all the working people who complained but the canadians were not important enough? Its not like this is some 500 dollar freeroll... Just so you know this is the biggest weekend of the year in Canada and just about everyone is gone cottaging or on vacation somewhere, trips that are planned months in advance.
This really is a pretty lame slap in the face.

He already apologized, what else do you want him to do? Move the tournament again and inconvenience other people that have qualified but have plans on whatever date it gets moved to? It sucks that this happened to you, but there's really no need to get rude. It's pretty cool that we are even getting offered such a great deal on a WSOP qualifier through this site. Can you like, find some place with an internet connection wherever you're going to be and play?

Look at it like this - EVEN for canadians, it's on a day when none of them will have to work. I was going to take a day off work for it when it was on a weekday.
If you don't like the free thing because of the time it's being given away, there's several other ways into the WSOP. You've heard of not looking a gift-horse in the mouth? That goes double when it's a community gift horse.
A guy sets you up a free single sat to a $10,000 seat, it's a good deal if it's at 12 midnight on your wife's due date.
Also, you flushing the buy-in you spent at pacific is nobody's fault but yours. You had to play money THROUGH the site, you were under no particular obligation to lose it all (though I thank you).

I think that if the date had been moved to the 4th of July, an uproar would have started.
Posted Thu Jun 08, 2006 9:28 am GMT by golddog
I think I need to lead off by saying that a weekend is generally better for members than not, I imagine--but I can't understand the mentality of "I'm willing to take a day off of work to play in this, but not stay home for a couple of hours on a holiday".
I guess I'm with Johnny; you're being offered an incredible (free, probably for most people; no more than $220) chance to play for a $10,000 seat in the main event and you're going to bitch about the fact that it's on a holiday/workday/whatever? This takes a special kind of chutzpah.
Work your way through it. Adjust your schedules.

5PM on Saturday.
I’m gutted you have to have played 20 tourneys before you can enter
I don’t see this promotion attracting many new players to Pacific althought it is a good way to reward current players and I guess there might be a few people who’ve played maybe 15-18 tourneys and intentionally enter some more just to push themselves over the line.

I don't think the people who scheduled the tournament knew that July 1st was a canadian holiday, so please don't take it personally. There is nothing I can do at this point, the dates are more or less set in stone. Please understand that changing dates for a second time this late in the process would be likely to only piss more people off. After this, I won't forget about July 1st
Hopefully this kinda thing never happens again, as we are now going to try and watch out for Canadian, UK and maybe aussie holidays as well
Oh, the tournament is 6PM GMT, not 5PM for UK players...so 1PM (GMT-5)...world clock...London is currently observing Daylight Savings Time just like most of the US (not arizona)

Can't believe you guys are all so thick headed. The dude is probably an overall losing player. He put up the money for those 20 tourneys and ended up losing a bit over a hundred bucks and only after that he finds out that it's been all for nothing because the tournament was moved.
See, I wouldn't care because I went up $120, but it was as if he put up a non-refundable buyin for the tourney and he got screwed over.

yea ask everyone in IRC how losing of a player I am. I must have paid my last two years of tuition with f*cking play money. I don't really give two shits about the 100 dollars and I also lost it playing their damn ring games, I broke even on the tourneys. But that being said I would never have dumped that 100 dollars on that site if I had known up front I couldnt make the date.
Also its hilarious that people suggest I take the holiday weekend off to play this tournament. Sorry but my life doesnt revolve around poker my friends are a bit more important. I'm just commenting on how poorly this date change was handled or the original date for that matter. You should have got imput on the date from the start and not had this even be a problem.
Also all this gifthorse in the mouth bullshit. What gifthorse am I looking at exactly? The one who falsly advertised a tourney date and suckered me into completing the promo before changing the date? Yea, nice. Not to mention its not like the forum is just ponying up 10k, there is a reason you have to play 20 SnG's and its not because THP is best friends with Pacific.
Anyways I'm going to drop it, but anyone with half a brain can see why this is shit. If it were any of you, you would feel the same way too. Don't bother saying sorry because its a cop-out and doesnt get me my time back which was more important than the 100 bucks. Try not running promos then completely change them mid-stream and f*ck some people over in the future, thanks.

Oh, so it's the time then.
Please make up your mind.
You're pissed because the date got changed and now you can't play. You made your point. Quit bitching about time and money invested. You broke even qualifying, so you can't be pissed off because you lost money doing so. You say you wasted your time as well. Who was forcing you to play those ring games that you lost your $100 with? If playing poker is a waste of time, then maybe you shouldn't be playing anyway, much less trying to go to the WSOP.

This is my last post because some of you are so thick its amazing, even for this place. First off I don't care about the 100 dollars in the sense I don't need it. I'm frustrated that I dumped it at Pacific though, they got all my rake and one of their players got 100 more dollars to pay more rake and I get no return on it. If I lost that 100 bucks to some random fish on party's 5/10 game, that is one more guy who thinks he can beat the game and in turn loses his paycheck every two weeks.
I'm more frustrated by the way this promotion was handled, with almost zero feedback from the players. The time is definetly a consideration because these SnG's take about 40 minutes a piece to complete so thats 800 minutes Ill never get back, and 800 minutes I could have spent playing my regular game.
And to echo supafrey on how short sighted you are about your ridiculous calculations. Sites set these tournaments up with larger forums to try and garner future business by getting permanent players. Thats why affiliates make so much money. I'd be very surprised if the forum was taking a hit whatsover on this tournament. Not that well ever know, but if they are its not even close to what you guys are making it out to be.
But oh well who cares right only Canadians get screwed, you guys are too caught up in yourselves to look past your border anyways. I know the forum owners didnt do it intentionally to f*ck Canadians over, but come on... you don't know the major holiday of the country right beside you? If the forum picks up a huge mexican readership just an fyi the 5th of may... not a good day for a promo.

Seriously, enough about the date change, it wasn't done to screw anybody and it's too late in the game to change it now as vyni has said. And to all the ignorant morons saying "hurr, quit whining f*cking Canadians, hurr" or "the forum doesn't revolve around you" can just shut the f*ck up. If the date hadn't been changed from the original one because of people whining you would have a point, but since it was your case is greatly weakened so just drop it. The arguments being made can just as easily be used to support the original date and then some. Any posts after this one about the date change will be removed. Everyone has had a chance to have a say about it but now it's just petty arguments going back and forth so let's all move on and get back on topic.

am up about about $180 now after 24 tourneys so am stepping up a gear and gonna try the $20's.
in my first year of poker i have cleared $2000. all of it on vcpoker. and am now realising how much of a grind that was and that there is clearly easier money out there.

www.rac.co.uk is telling me that leicester square is 4 hours drive away from my house. i have to go for a meal in 3 hours. the logistics of this makes it an unfavourable option on this occasion i am afraid.

i have now slightly ammended my move up to $20's on pacific. i am now going to use a kinda stop-gap method. i will keep on playing the $20's... if i go below $200 profit i will go back to the $10's...
this seems quite sensible to me...

I dont imagine it would be published on the software until within a day or 2 of the tourney: we have to submit the registrations, then pacific has to review accounts for the requirments, and set it up on their end.
We'll let everyone know as soon as we know.
I'll contact those regsiterd via email.

got nearly 40 tourneys out of the way now.
still only $200 up from this though which is not much more then when i was at the 20 mark. however i have been dabbling in $20 tourneys too.
21 cashes in 37 games i dont think is too bad.
how do i work what my % ITM is on this?

21 divided by 37.

If your curious as to if you qualified or not, I suppose you can just go in and register since its now listed in the multi tables within pacific now: if you qualified, you should be able to register.

Alright, I've got the list. I'll be sending out emails to everybody who qualified shortly. If you aren't sure if you have qualified, just open up pacific and try to register. There are 22 ppl already registered. If you don't get an email it doesn't necessarily mean that you won't be able to get in. If there is any doubt, just go to the Multi-table tab and look for the following tournament:
#11016653 TexasHoldem-Poker WSOP Freeroll Jul 01- 13:00
Hold'em No Limit Free Roll Restricted
Its highlighted green also. If for whatever reason you believe that you should have qualified, but are unable to get into the tournament, please contact PacificPoker tech support so that they can resolve the matter, as the tournament is all set up and out of hands at this point.
PacificPoker Tech support can be reached at:
1-800-480-5186 US/Canada
0-800-032-4228 UK
Or, you can go to PacificPoker.com and click "24/7 Live support" in the lower right hand corner.

Can you post the number that qualified?
Posted Thu Jun 29, 2006 2:39 pm GMT by Sid Lambert
I don't know the number that qualified because Pacific is being careful not to share too much information with us due to privacy concerns...for example those of you who didn't signup to Pacific originally via THP...I'm not allowed to see a list of those people....so I really don't know exactly how many people will be registered...
I do know that I just sent out 58 emails to people who registered for the tournament, are qualified, and signed up to Pacific originally from THP. Also, at last count there were 27 ppl reg'ed in the tournament lobby in Pacific's software. I'm hoping they can do something about AFKs this time around...altho I can't imagine why somebody would reg and not play this tournament.

Good luck to the rest of you!!

Well that was fun, heads ups pre with the big stack my big ace ran into his bigger ace. Too bad I'm almost as unlucky as husky

ugh, just played a terrible hand. too timid.. I was in 3rd place with about 14,000 and ran up against an aggressive roy89074. KJ vs Q6 and he pushed aggressively with second pair and I had top pair. He hit Q on river and that was that. I'm still alive but barely.

Congratulations on winning, sinc.
Unfortunately, we're going to have to change the prize. It is no longer going to be for the WSOP. You have instead won a seat into another Pacific $20+$1 SnG. Sorry for any inconveniece. It's just that it would be better for most of the American players if we changed the prize.
Pacific is having a get-together the night before the main event. I hope to see you there.
