Yes, there's value in betting

I don't know villain, but typically I wouldn't expect too see many worse hands calling a bet here (split or lose vs any ace here) and I don't expect any better hands folding much either, so I'd say the value of a bet is questionable.

hmmm
He's flat calling you not tusseling with you
it's a no-flush board but a two-straight board
he's checking and calling your bets pretty smoothly.
There's no point in betting for a fold here. You're splitting the hand if he has a lower kicker then you, losing anyway if he has KQ or a higher kicker...there's a good chance of a full house with AJ or A10 here
The only hand you're going to sucker-punch this guy with is if he's got two pair with a jack ten or maybe a busted draw with 9x of hearts.
So I think I'd check and see here, honestly. With the two aces on the board, he's not going to call you unless he's got one himself or he made broadway, in which case he's probably raise. If he's got the ignorant straight, he'll call your "value" bet in disgust and find himels the winner...

I think it's a good spot to bet for value, not too big though. NL50 players will call you with a worse hand here, many players will call you with a jack.

Bet...if he folds...so what. You want to extract the most from him that you can. Provided you have the winning hand here...

I personally don't think there is much value at all betting here. If you bet and he folds, then you are going to win the same amount of money either way. If you bet and he CALLS, then there is a chance you are either beat or splitting it and you just gave away money that you didn't need to.
Just my $.02

I bet 10$ on the river, he check raised all-in for 6.50$ more. I had to call, he showed Q 8 . I started thinking about my bet afterwards and wasn't sure a bet was in order here.
With the way action went down, if he calls it's either a split or he has me beat. I don't see him calling with just a pair.

Q 8 wasn't QUITE the straight I was worried about . . . but . . . egh...I guess he had a two card draw...I can . . . sort of see that . . .MAN Q 8!
That's one of those ones where you want to eat the guy's pets, but he only owns ferrets.
I guess there is something in this one about entering a pot aggressively if at all, but he probably would have called you because "people in the BB always steal"

What better hand would he lay down if you bet? I can't think of even one.
What worse hands would he call with if you bet? KJ, QJ, JT are about the only ones I think make any sense. Note any Ace he holds gives him a split or a win, and he will not lay down Ace-small.
Overall, I don't see much value in betting here, unless you really figure him for a mid-size Jack.

I agree, too many hands out there that can beat you, and probably none of them will lay down to any kind of bet. So yeah, I'd check.

thank the donk for calling a pot sized bet w/ an open ended and a backdoor flush draw...him calling the turn is fine...him not betting the river seems kinda silly on his part...i think a donk drew out on you and you got burnt
altho considering the river bet, i think i would have bet too...but after this discussion on wut a *decent* player could have had...i think i should've checked due to a lack of value...the only value of betting would be to not show everybody wut you had in your hand so they cant take notes on how you play...

I think I check it down. I just can't see a hand that you beat that he will call with, so the bet only has 0 or -EV associated with it.
Given the result of the hand, I would make sure I had notes on this guy. Specifically, that he is a donk who will call pot sized bets with weaker draws, but more importantly he is a donk that will check the river to try and checkraise when he hits. What a horrible play by him.
