Who wins in a 2nd high card situation |

I was playing in a house game the other night and a situation came up.
The table had AAQ47
I had AJ or AAAQJ using table cards
The other guy had A3 or AAAQ7 using table cards
Who won? I thought I should have because my jack beat his 3. But others thought that only the first high card mattered and that we should split the pot. Thank you in advance for your informative answer.

Can anyone give me an official rule link to this? My buddies are just going to tell me Im full of sh*t if I say some guy said so off the internet. I really tried to find something about it but I couldnt. So even a link to a complete set of Hold Em rules adressing this would be helpfull.

you have 3 of a kind aces with a queen jack kicker
he has 3 of a kind aces with a queen seven kicker
queen jack high beats queen seven high - would be how i'd explain this as a poker dealer

Ty Johny and kainARGH for your help. Basically the other night I got screwed out of doubling up my money on an all in situation. Oh well, thats what I get for not knowing the rules well enough to push others to find out the right answer.

No problem. I would suggest printing Hold 'em rules for your home game. That way you'll be able to solve problems until everyone grasps all the rules.
