we recently had our first no limit hold 'em tounament at home.
I won, but later came under scrutiny because I was using a pre-flop strategy card.
Is this allowed by casino rules??
Or considered cheating??
Or vary from casino to casino?

My advice...... Study.

I AM studying.
But until I have the info in my head...my question IS: Is it against the official rules in a Casino to use a crib sheet to refer to.
I am a beginner, and played against 12 other people...3 of whom have been playing the game for quite some time...and I won. Thats why I came under scrutiny for using the card.
I just want to know if it is officially OK to use it.
Someone please let me know..thanks....

I dont know any specific rules but if your allowed to take a card that has the hand ranks I cant see them complaining about it. Look at the people that take headphones, books....etc to the tables whose to say what they are really listening to or reading, right?

It would seem that the other players would surely welcome a player that was using strategy cards. It would most likely indicate a neophyte and hence a fairly weak player POST-FLOP regardless of how "perfectly" he plays pre-flop. I know I wouldn't mind seeing it.

There's yer problem right there: Every casino will probably feel a little different about it.

In the game of blackjack; casinos allow you to use strategy cards....
...so why not in the game of poker?

I expect people would welcome you at the table with such a card. I'd bring it. They can always ask you to put it away. Just don't do what it says ALL the time. If I saw someone with one of those I'd seriously believe he couldn't think I was dumb enough to believe he needed it.
See the problem is, preflop is the easiest time to make a decision. What on earth are you going to do after the flop? Fold every time you miss? Never play a draw? You do that and you will NEVER get paid off--you'll win blinds and nothing else. You'll bust, but you'll be there a while.
Why don't you play online for .25/.50 or so, until you at least know what starters to play from what seat. THEN, maybe, try the casino.

Casinos allow you to use Blackjack strategy cards because they want you to play. They have a slight edge no matter what your little card says and if it makes people feel more comfortable playing Blackjack, it gets more money in the casino's pockets.
Using a strategy card at a poker table where you are playing against other people as opposed to playing against the house is a different matter. Although I'm not sure if there are any rules that would prevent it, I'm sure the casino wouldn't care because it's still collecting a rake on your money. You may however have a few people at the table complain.

If i ever see someone holding those preflop strategy cards; i'd welcome them to the table!!!!
C'mon now folks...you guyz are scared of a weeny strategy card...BWAAH! LOL :D
There is no way in hell a strategy card can replace experience at the tables.
Conlusion: I'd choose experience over strategy cards anyday! And for the folks without these strategy cards; i'd recommend that they get their own at the gift shop!

No...I think you and I should print them up and send them out for free, along with a ticket allows someone to sit free at the table (except for his blinds, of course). On the bottom of the card we write: "Here's all you ever need to know to be fabulously successful at casino hold'em. Reveal this information to NO ONE!"

Not sure who that was directed at, hope it wasn't me. I was just saying some people(namely other beginners) might not like it if somebody has a cheat card.
Me personally, I wouldn't give a crap if you were reading Super System while watching Caro's Poker Tells on a portable DVD player while sitting at the table :D

...it wasn't personally directed at you my friend; i'm just doin' a little Jerry Springer here just' to start some controversy....tabloid style!
No harm intended fellow cardplayer; just a little poker talk is all....
Conclusion: strategy cards is just smoke n mirrors....a false confidence so to speak! It makes the fish feel better! No such thing as lightning in a bottle folks....a strategy card is just somebodies opinion folks...just smoke n mirrors....

Wasn't it the first Aruba tournament on WPT that Phil Gordon pulled out a strategy card to see what to do against Hellmuth when he had a full house?
Posted Thu Oct 07, 2004 5:15 pm GMT by mindgame
Wait, wait! You mean I can buy a strategy card to tell me how to play my full house against a guy like Helmuth?????
Hey, now I'm interested!
