Since we're talking about Casino rules...

In a cash game, when all players in a given hand are all-in (and there can be no future bets) is it standard for the players to turn their cards over? In all of the home games I've played we always flip 'em. The online rooms I've played in do this as well. Is this a question of etiquette or is there a rule for this?

And just to clear up, I'm talking about turning their cards over before the final card is dealt.

It's only required in tournament play. There's no rule that requires you to do it in a cash game, nor is it prohibited.

I like to do it in cash games because it's good for the drama.

it's not required, no.

You need to check the house rules. Played at a Seminole casino in Florida and they had a house rule that said that every player calling the showdown had to show cards. They didn't insist on it unless a player asked for cards to be shown but then would enforce the rule.

(This behavior mimics my online site where cards are shown in succession from the person called and working left. When the winning hand is shown remaining players fold but their hands can be seen in the previous hand history link by anyone who was dealt cards in the hand.)

Since anyone in an all-in situation (as you described it) will see the showdown, at this casino it is just a matter of timing as to when the cards would be shown.

Had two bozos at a live casino, same table, who went all in and flipped their cards even though there were multiple players left in the hand and cards still to be dealt.

The couple of casinos I've been too, as soon as their is an all-in and someone calls, they just start dealing out the cards...they don't care, just get it done and move on to the next hand. There is none of that TV drama bs, at least when I've played.

Yes, they will definitely move the game along. Both the house rake and dealer tips depend on number of hands dealt per hour and they will definitely do everything they can to keep things moving.

If I were at some of those TV tables where it takes two minutes from flop to showdown I'd be ready to shoot the tournament director.

Basically, this came up because I'm beta testing that new PKR site. When there is an all-in situation, the cards are not flipped and there is no option to do so. The winning hand gets shown and the loser has an option to show after the river is dealt. I feedbacked them that it would be cool to have this option (the site is all about "realism") but they said that standard casino cash game ruling is that the cards remain face down until all the cards are dealt.

Oh well.

Where I've played here in L.A., in tournaments they flip them over, in cash games it's up to the players involved, but they have to decide quickly to keep the game moving.

The person who is CALLED will have to show his cards anyway, so he might as well turn them over as soon as he's called. Unless he's bluffing of course and decides to muck when the board doesn't hit him.
