cool as shit for the lady who got it but damn.....
So heres the story. A friend at dealer school says her friend won a wsop sattalite. congradulations we all say. She then goes on to say it was 44$ to enter and 1st place was a guarenteed wsop seat.
.
..
...
12 people entered the tournement. She won it of course and paid 44$ to play VS 11 people for a wsop seat. I forget the site name, but they were haveing some special giving away a seat an hour or something. Was over memorial day weekend so it was just not very busy.
crazy!

This year's WSOP Main Event is going to be the largest crapshoot ever witnessed. They're eventually going to have to regulate this thing or severely up the buy-in.
I'm really not complaining, it's cool that so many poker players have a chance to play. It just almost feels like a joke though.

I dont believe increasing the buyin would change anything: the ones who actually buy their seats... well it can be assumed if they have the bank to throw 10k around on a tourney, then the buyin isnt much of a problem for them.
I think you're more concerned of the masses coming in on satellites, paid for by the casinos. Again, the casinos know they're drawing crowds giving them away, and there's no doubt they can afford it. Increased buyins wouldnt really control the masses. In fact, the increased prize pool would draw even more intrest.
Should there be some level of prequalifying, or perhaps a quota of performance/results to be eligible perhaps? Maybe. At the cost of a lesser prize? Sure, the final 2 or 3 players are just in it for the fame at that point, but those players that went out earlier (but still ITM)... bet they'll still sleep well at night.
It takes one hell of a streak to win something this big on nothing but luck. By the final tables, I don't doubt that the field will have narrowed to the pros, with a handful of new names of skill. Some of the best 'online' players are going to quickly realize that they're the fish again. Whats dangerous is the early play: pros up against less experienced players. Whose sig was it I seen that quote on, something of that poker's not about making the right calls but rather making the wrong call at the right time. Funny, but its going to happen thousands of times in this thing, and alot of better players will surely get burned. Until this thing gets further along, dumb luck is going to be a huge factor.
Of course, the same can be said of any MTT. Before you can even think about the final tables, you have to work your way through alot of bs plays.
