Often people try to get snazzy with a big hand or something,. and of course its something we've all done...
but lately, i'm feeling i like it more to bet big when i have a big hand.... say when i flop a set i will often just bet into the pre-flop raiser instead of trying to trap him or something.. online at least
an example from last night's home game
I got aces, i just moved in preflop... i dont care. if anyones crazy enough to call, thanx for your chips.. if not,.... thanx for your chips as well.
NL cash game €10 buy-in.
Im in middle position with about €12 in front of me.. i got 4-5offsuit. 3 people are in the pot. the small blind, me and someone in late position.
flop is 2-3-7... small blind checks, i bet out €.60 to generate some action. late positioncalls, small blind now raises.. (luckily for me the small blind is not a very good player and when he raises its ALWAYS the minimum amount) so i gladly called the €.60 more.. late position folds here
turn is the A... he now checks. i put him on a very strong hand as he check-raised me on the flop, and now he checks again.
I made the nuts so i just came out swingin and bet €5 into the €3.5 - €4.25 something pot. he thinks for a while and says the magic word "all-in".. i of course call and he shows A-7 for top two pair. i think betting so big when i made the hand was part of the reason i got his whole stack in there... now if the turn hadnt improved him it might not have happened, but still... its something to ponder
perhaps this wasnt the greatest of examples and Im not saying i always do this,.. but in my mind i think in the long run -against most players- you will get payed off bigger with your big hands this way

I almost never slow play online, because most players are loose calling stations. There's no use in slowplaying if they'll call you down. I usually bet 2/3 to 3/4 of the pot throughout the hand. You want to build big pots with your good hands and the way to do that is to bet.

I bet and raise when I have a good hand, and sometimes I do it when I don't have a good hand/draw...I leave it to my opponents to figure out which is what. It seems to work well.

I forgot to mention that what I said was related to cash games. I play tournaments a little differently, mianly due to stack sizes.

I dont tend to stick to one way of playing. No point giving players an easy read (He always bets his mediocre hands and slowplays strong ones)
I will fast play hands or slowplay depending on who I am playing. This i the way I have found to be the most profitable.

In the lower limits not many players are paying attention anyways so betting and raising is almost always to prefer. Just play solid straight forward poker and it'll all be fine.

You can never go wrong betting your big hands. The only time it's probably correct to slowplay is if you have an unbeatable hand... you're hoping someone will make an improvement to another big hand and bet into you
