The finishing touches are being applied now. Lots of little odds and ends to work out, but shes been up and running. As we begin publishing our articles, I'll be working on those odds and ends (some on thpblog, some need applied here in th-p).
The point of letting a handful in now is for initial testing and user feedback: we want your opinions and suggestions. Also, as I approach the development of the administration interface for the blogs, it's nicer to have content to work with.
One of the immediate to-dos for her is the addition of blog instructions/faq. What I've done here is integrated the b2evolution blogging build to the forum itself. That build had no help section to even start with, let alone the changes I've made to it. So the whole thing needs be written from scratch. Oh what fun. It's for this, I want to hear your questions! It's all fairly simple, but if you find anything confusing, let me know so I can be sure to add it to the faq!
Logging In:
Your username and password is exactly the same as it is here on th-p.com. Same forum, same accounts, just running under a second domain with a different skin.
If you've forgotten your accounts password, go through the password reset feature and set it again. You'll need your password to spawn your blog. You'll find on thpblog.com a 'Blog Admin' link: this opens the b2evolution admin screens, allowing you to post articles, edit articles and comments, and create/manage your catagories.
Your blog will be created the first time you log in to that admin screen. Rather than weigh down the database by automaticlly creating blogs for all users, its done on that login, so that we're only carrying blogs on the users that wanted one.
Blog URLs:
For those who wish to link to their blogs, or just have a pretty little addy for their blog, we have her setup to recognize http://username.thpblog.com
The name is not case sensitive. If your username contains a space, replace it with an underscore.
Examples: My link is http://vyni.thpblog.com
Sid Lamberts link would be http://sid_lambert.thpblog.com (theres an underscore in there!)
If you follow such a link, the script will first look for the user. If they have created a blog, it'll redirect to it. Otherwise, it'll redirect to their profile. If no such user is found, it'll simply redirect to the index.
Blog Content:
Probably should at least mention this. When your blog is created, it automaticly creates your first catagory of 'poker'. You can create all the catagories you want, and blog on whatever subjects your heart desires, but let's try and keep it clean. I don't think I need explain what I mean here. We'll wash away the filth.
You'll find some of the mods Sid has applied here in th-p.com are not available on thpblog.com, and alot of mods I made to thpblog.com arent available here in th-p.com. Once we feel shes fit to run public, we'll look at carrying these mods over.
I could go on all day here, but I wont. Let's carry the conversation and feedback on here.
Did you know that participating in a poker forum can help you improve your own game? Be it by sharing experiences or simply asking for help, participation in a forum helps you focus and keep 'on topic' which will help you improve your game. You can learn from other players feedback and from their experiences. Why the THP poker forums? We offer one of the best managed texas holdem poker forums available, and the community within is far more friendly than those typicaly found on other sites. We've made a 'lurkers edition' of the poker forum available here on Holdem Poker Online, but we encourage all visitors to register and join in on the conversations on TexasHoldem-Poker.com

Of the things to watch for:
Any errors of course. I havent come across anything that should cause errors, but if it happens, let me know asap.
Cosmetic issues. I'm not going to go on about the mess that build was. I'll just say, I've spent alot of time cleaning up pretty stupid sh!t. Let me know if I missed any of it.
All said and done, I believe its all been integrated quite nicely. I've avoided blogs like they were the plague in the past, but this setup isn't too bad. I wasnt sure if I liked what I had done with the blogs pages, but after reviewing some of the other blog services out there yesterday, I find I'm comfortable with it. Give me feeback.

And this is why we're testing. Gold brought forward an issue in spawning the blog: an edit i made yesterday more or less shut down the blog creation. It has been corrected.
If you logged into the blog admin window and found messages about blog permissions, it's because your blog wasnt spawned. Click the log out icon on that blog admin screen, then simply log right back in. It has been corrected.

I will start blogging with this very soon. I take it the url cannot be given out yet?
I applaud your work. I think that the bloging site looks better than thp and think it'd be cool if the forums can be implemented there eventually.

Oh, they are :D

For the users, THPblog.com represnts the community side of texasholdem-poker.com. For us, well theres other benefits of that site that we wont discuss If we follow through, that site quite likely is going to make thp the largest community on the poker topic.
The address is http://THPblog.com. You'll find the links you need pretty prominently displayed.
The design of the site: I started working on it with that template from phpbb. It was to be temporary. I just chose it because I liked the structure and application feel of her. I just kept adding to and modifying the template, and I think we're going to stick with it now. I threw credit to the original designer on the about screen.
Oh yeah, I have to author the about screen yet too.

Can we have an option to turn off that bar which lists tournaments, interviews etc?
Posted Wed Jun 07, 2006 6:32 pm GMT by vyni
Thats to do with our end, the 'other' reason thp exists.
But for regular members, I don't see why not. I'll run it by the bosses, see what they say. Maybe make it a profile option to 'disable menu scroll' or something.

When will you be rolling this out, any date?
Posted Tue Jun 13, 2006 3:52 pm GMT by vyni
I'm moving this thread into public view now, get some content rolling in her. I'ld say she's safe to roll: still keep an eye for anything as suggested before.

sorry for no replies to the pm. Yes, for me to consider it I'd need a upload of my current blog to the new site. Something I imagine you'd be loathe to do...

I love the new interface and would also like to ditch the menu scroll.

Arent you on vacation still? Lol didn't expect a reply for awhile.
Xanga doesnt appear to have a feed, so I'll do it manualy. I'll have a look into it this evening.
And the profile option will be added in a bit here as well, though to eliminate confusion, it'll only be avail on the thpblog profile edit screens.
Posted Tue Jun 13, 2006 5:47 pm GMT by vyni
Aight. Those who wanted that thpblog top menu static, go to your profile edit screen (on thpblog) and find the 'Make THPblog top menu static?' option.
Posted Tue Jun 13, 2006 6:26 pm GMT by supafrey

That black bar that keeps following me all over the page has got to go.
Posted Wed Jun 14, 2006 4:24 am GMT by supafrey
ooohhh la la.
Wasn't that a lot of work? lol. If i get to see some sort of terms of service or licensing agreement or well... ANYTHING that says that the work there stays my property, I'll probably start posting my articles on there instead.
Deal?

supa: obvious terms apply, same that would be for any sites user submitted content. Bottom line, your content is your content, subject to our approval for publication on our sites. Typical terms usually state that we have the right to publish any user submitted content, unless otherwise stated (like personal info, etc: terms ensure we do not distribute personal data to third parties). I just reviewed the current site disclaimers and such and find them very lacking, so today I'll put together a more in depth set and have the bosses approve them. You decide at that time and let me know.
Since you even suggested a property issue, I've removed your import (I have it backed up here, quick restore if you wish). We will not be playing games with property and permissions: if you don't want content published, dont submit it. Fairly common sense. As your import was originaly submitted to xanga, its not content submitted to the site. So, again since you suggested it, if you wish I'll restore it on thp again, but I'm going to need an email from you clearly indicating your permission.
There's always someone. This is what I get for being nice lol.

just covering my bases for my future book deal, that's all.
don't need you shlubs having the original "supa papers" and profiting off my brilliance, that's all.
Posted Wed Jun 14, 2006 12:17 pm GMT by vyni
Then I believe you'll find this is a done deal for you supa.
You're suggesting that in the event of your success one day, that Ace Nine is then obligated to remove your content? This is quite possibly one of the most absurd suggestions I've heard, and no we'll not draft terms commiting ourselves to such conditions. I of course don't speak for Ace Nine, but we're back into the common sense ball park again.
Add on here: not official as of yet, but in order to cover the bases, these terms will include something along the lines of.....
Your posting of content and your thoughts on Ace Nine operated domains automatically gives Ace Nine a royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, non-exclusive right and license to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from, distribute, disseminate, perform, transmit and display such content (in whole or part) and/or to incorporate it in other works in any form, media, or technology now known or later developed for the full term of any rights that may exist in such content. If you are not the owner of such content, you shall be deemed to have warranted that the owner of the content has expressly granted to you a similar license.

Yeah. Nevermind. I don't want a blog. Please delete anything of mine you've grabbed so far.
Posted Wed Jun 14, 2006 12:51 pm GMT by vyni
Was already done, unless we're now looking at forum content as well.
Posted Wed Jun 14, 2006 3:05 pm GMT by supafrey

Maybe there should be navigation from the forum to the blogs? Left-hand nav link maybe?
