Collusion

Posted Thu Jun 08, 2006 10:18 am GMT by BeerWench13
I played at Bally's in AC for the first time this weekend. Never in my life, not even in home games, have I seen such collusion. There were players throwing money across the table at one another (no, they weren't even in a hand), talking across the table to their buddies about what they were holding, showing hands before the hand was complete, etc. It was awful. One table I sat at made me feel like I was the only outsider. Not a good position. I left pretty quickly.

Has anyone experienced this is a casino? The dealers did nothing about it even when hands were exposed, people were betting out of turn, sharing their stacks with one another and discussing their hands while the hand was still in play. I was thoroughly disappointed.

I only played poker in a casino once.. and people WERE tossing some chips over the table a few times. but i think it was just for fun and noone kept them.. they just threw em back to the owners.

and if you declare your hand in that game it is dead..

Dealers did nothing? On my way out I would've told the floor, I'm sure they would've done something.

There was a floor person standing by our table and chatting with one of the players for about 20 minutes. This was still occurring during the time he was standing there. My guess is that a few were "regulars" and they don't want to offend them. I think I'll just stick to the the Trop next time I go. They're much more organized there. At Bally's, they were taking initials for seating on post-it notes and the only people alerting the floor staff of seat openings were players who were at the table and wanted those seats filled. It was a mess, IMO.

That is about as wrong as it gets. Talk about creating a bad atmosphere for good experienced players and setting the entirely wrong standard for new players. Never go back there!

Thats where I play for pretty much the same reasons. Seats are filled in an orderly manner, table service is easy to get and your order arrives quickly. In gerneral they have their shit together.

I have played at a couple Casinos when the tables were filled with regulars. That sounds exactly what it was you were dealing with Wench. Best to avoid it unless you like it or can deal with it.

Me personally I deal with it. I try to fit in and just seem like a "Good Ole Boy". While I am putting on my good ole boy routine I am taking their chips and laughing it up with them. Often at these tables are best to get side wagers going. I did that a few times and wound up getting free dinner and drinks.

No thanks! There was entirely too much table talk for my interest. By the turn, everyone at the table who was in "the group" knew what the player who was still in the hand was holding. They're obviously not trying to break each other, so guess who they are trying to break. Hmmm

I played at one table fairly early on Saturday and it was a good table with solid players and I made a good chunk of cash there. There was still a bit of table talk, but it was after the hand was over, not during.

I just prefer good organization and an adherence to rules. It fits my personality fairly well. I doubt I'll spend any more time in Bally's when the Trop is right up my alley.

Hey Wench it's Jersey.

You were expecting maybe everyone was gonna play nice?

I'm amazed it was so blatant. This is a frequent complaint at casinos with a core of regulars and a steady stream of tourists--it's up to the floor to stop that crap. But look at the bright side: if they are getting away with it there they are unlikely to go anywhere else. A reputable room would not put up with it, so another venue is your best bet.

I've only had to report collusion twice. In the first case it was just a couple of ethnic compadres who were losing anyway. In the second it was a trio of So. Indiana good ole boys who thought they could get away with "best hand plays." Not for 3 hours, you can't. With them I just kept up a steady verbal attack coupled with regular visits from the floor and reports from the dealers. They finally went across the bay to the Trump poker room--I was just making it too uncomfortable for them. But I AM a regular and my complaints were not enough to get them bounced.

I've only played at Bally's once, and while nothing like that happened, the room still gave off a very uproffessional vibe. I went once, and won't be returning.

I've never been to the Borgata, Hilton, or Harrah's, but the Trop is definitely the best run out of the rest down in AC.
