Can you really make $30k+ a year playing SNG's

Posted Mon Jun 12, 2006 1:54 pm GMT by jonesyb
Ok ok... i know you can. I read about people on a forum that shall remain nameless that make alot more. But does anyone on here do so? I really want personal experiences from people on here.

stakes, sites, how many tables etc...

hopefully i want to get up to earning this much cash out of poker in the not too distant future... it doesnt seem too unrealistic in my most honest of opinions.

oh right, ok. its not a secret or anything i just didnt want to advertise another forum on here. its 2+2.. and as most people probably know they have a very busy tourney section. with people 8+ tabling $50 - $200 sngs and whatnot..

Mentioning another forum in context with the thread is not advertising. It's usually pretty easy to see when someone is trying to advertise.

8-tabling, I'm sure it's not hard to do (if you're very good, that is), especially if you're playing the $215's all day.

Thanks for the free card!

At one time or another i've logged on to most poker forums.

I found 2+2 to be full of high stakes players and/or players who are experienced at all types of poker. (In fact one thread was on the subject of whether they should let low limit players make posts on the site!, it received weeks of discussion)-It was then i started looking for another poker forum site.

I'm not saying the sites rubbish, i'm just saying it may not be the best site for you to gain information and knowledge.

Also if you believe their posts on the money they earn-why not question them and find put how they did it?

In my opinion, yes you can, but it's not easy-if it was, we'd all be doing it.!

Good luck in your quest!!!

i like to read as much as i can and i enjoy reading threads/articles on many other sites. what you say would apply to all poker sites though i am thinking.

quite simply i like talking to people on here about poker. its the only poker forum i actually post on and feel comfortable posting on. :D

i agree with you. i feel i am getting there though. it wasnt that long ago i was only playing $1 sngs. i am now playing $10's + $20's. my bankroll could support a little higher too. but i am at the momet confortable playing these games. the progress is reassuring though.

if yer looking to grind it out and make a living out of it...i would recommend limit cash games...as there are fewer swings, and they arent as big when they happen...no limit sngs are gonna be much more shakier imho...

I dont know Sid. If you catch a bad run in limit, you can easily go through 2-3 buy ins in a sitting. You would have to lose 15-20 SNGs in a row to equal that much.

I guess it all depends on your style of play.

Yes you are right, you can never read too much, especially when it comes to poker.

However, i would give someone who plays high stakes different advice to those playing low stakes. Just make sure the advice you receive is specific to your level.

hah, that also isnt very hard to do.

lets throw some math out there for this one ...

hypothetical: play for 5 hours a day, 5 days a week, 25 hours a week, so about 1300 hours a year

that comes out to 23.07 an hour

if you're 4 tabling party 11s with an average time of 40 min a tourney ... 6 tournies an hour means you need 35% ROI ($66 * 1.25 = $89)

so it is actually possible to make that kind of money even at lower limits without 8 tabling ...

Probably quite a bit harder than losing a few buy ins worth at limit though.

party poker is the best site to make money from playing SnGs

if you're looking to have more fun while doing it, but make less money, then go to pokerstars

Posted Tue Jun 20, 2006 6:39 am GMT by Jernej Zorec
this is not my stats but u can see what u can do at Stars
if u play well, its 500 SNG's played in 1 month time

ITM - 47.20%
ROI - 50.65%
BUY - $10,366
RET - $15.617
TOT - $5,251
$/H - $41.18
W/L - 79/31

saying that u can't make as much money on stars as u do on party is not exactly valid.
