A hand from yesterday

Posted Fri Jun 16, 2006 7:15 am GMT by domic1000
This hand occured yesterday in the casino. I won the hand, but I would like to see what your opinion will be on "what if"..... it is $1/$2 no limit..

I am on the button and get 5s, 6s.... The table is relatively tight, and whenever I raise, everyone mostly fold... so i thought since i am on the button, I make it $15, and i get one caller...

The flop comes 2d, Kd, 3c... he checks and i am thinking since I raised preflop, I'll bet here and represent the king. so i bet about $20 and he calls... i figure he is either on the flush draw or has the king, but more likely a king..

The turn comes 4d.... he checks. now i am thinking he probably doesn't have the flush since he checks and i hit a straight so i bet $35 and he calls..

The river comes Qh.. he checks again and i bet $40, he calls to see what i have and i show him straight and win a nice pot....

I was pretty happy with that play as I stayed agresssive during the pot... However, what would you do if he bet after the turn, would you put him on a flush... it would be hard to muck my straight, but i believe he would have the flush if he bet after the turn...

and also what would you do if i don't hit my straight on the turn, do i try to bet hard and buy the pot, or check and hope for the river... since he called me after the flop, maybe he thinks his king (if that's what he has) is the best hand and he'll keep calling me...

cheers

If a suited card flops I bet 1/2 to 2/3 the pot to represent the flush IF I think he is capable of laying down TPTK. If not I check/ fold.

A common thing in poker I find. People are too willing to put someone on a flush if they call the flop and the 3rd suited card hits.

You put him more likely on a king than a flush draw. He bets, I raise. If he reraises I can pretty much lay down as he has shown strength.

If you didn't hit your turn card then I would probably not bet again. The reason why is because you said about the river "He calls to see what I have"

that type of player you don't want to try and bluff past continuation bet.

if he called your flop bet w/ a flush draw, he had bad pot odds to do so...

if he bet the turn, then I am calling, if not raising...you have an incredibly deceptive hand, there is no way he can put you on a straight....if he overbets the pot, i'd go all-in, as that seems like he's protecting trips or a similar non-flush strong hand against the flush draw, whereas if he really hit the flush, he'd milk it heads-up, especially since its likely he has a big diamond since he called yer raise preflop...an extremely deceptive nut straight heads-up is a monster

If you missed the turn, check behind, hope for the river to save you....your hand is garbage w/o that gutshot hitting...and like crack said, if he called 'just to see it', then its likely that he isn't one to run from a big bet...of course, you may not have known that at the time...but its tough to bet when you have such a terrible hand...
