So im finally 21 and happen to be going to vegas with my dad for business but I figure I would play some poker while there. I have been playing poker for about 4 years so I know the game. The largest game i have played was a 1/2 no limit game. This is what I would be looking to play in vegas, can anyone recommend any casinos? Thank you.

First, understand that anything under 10/20 limit and $500 max buy-in out there is considered "tourist" poker--not such a bad thing, but with 10 players at a table it guarentees you lots of bad beats.

Most everyone here refers to NL games by the blinds, but they usually refer to them by the max buy-in, so ask about the blinds. If you are used to online games you'll find that the blinds are higher than you'd expect for the buy-in (I believe the blinds at the 200 NL table were 5/10).

I enjoyed the poker room at the Hilton when I stayed there--it's as far from the center of the Vegas poker universe as you're likely to get, for that you want the Mirage or Bellagio. But the Hilton tables (and there's usually no more than 2 going during the day on a weekday, a 2/4 game and a $200 NL) supply a steady stream of guys who throw one or two hundred down and give it a shot--often they've never played casino poker before.

I've never been able to find a winning strategy at the low-limit Vegas tables--oh yeah, they are all fishy, but you can go nuts trying to beat a table full of idiots in LIMIT poker. But the $200 NL at the Hilton only drew one or two regulars each day--you'll know them (both guys in their 20's) by the second or third day, or by the fact that they play tight and they are fine position players--very aggressive, they stand out from the crowd and they're easy to avoid. I pulled about $60/hour from that Hilton NL game and I dont' really have the kind of patience it takes to be a good NL player--I'm mostly a 10/20 and 15/30 Limit guy.

The night super at the Hilton used to be a super at the casino outside Chicago where I play. I think his name is Bud, but I don't remember--it's been about 2 months since I was there. Anyway he's a nice guy. If you just tell him you remember him from Harrah's in East Chicago (it's called Resorts Casino now) and ask him how he's doing he'll friendly right up. Of course he won't know who the hell you are, but he might even pretend he does. Once you're chatting with him you can tell him you're just in town for a few days--he'll give you the low down on the room, suggest other venues, and I suspect he'd even tell you who the regulars are.

Good luck

So im back after spending a week in vegas and I have an update for everyone. So I stayed at the venetian but I couldnt find a holdem game there for anything less than 20/40 which is ridiculious. I played across the street at treasure island which was very nice. I played 1/3 nl which was a good game. My first night I bought in for 200, with the max being 500 and i cashed out at around 1300 which was awesome. After the first night i won a few hundred each night and then lost 600 the last night. Overall i gained around 1000 dollars on the trip from just playing 1/3 at TI. I suggest anyone going there check it out, the competition isnt too hard and everyone is there for fun.
