I bought "the man behind the shades" from ebay a couple of days ago, and it is probably one of the most interesting books I have ever read. For those who don't know the book is the biography of Stuey Ungar, who won the world series of poker twice two years running then came back ten years later and won it again.
If you havent read the book and have any interest at all in poker I would seriously suggest you go out and get yourself a copy.
This was the first Biography I have read of any poker player, are there any more out there, if so can anyone recommend one?
Did you know that participating in a poker forum can help you improve your own game? Be it by sharing experiences or simply asking for help, participation in a forum helps you focus and keep 'on topic' which will help you improve your game. You can learn from other players feedback and from their experiences. Why the THP poker forums? We offer one of the best managed texas holdem poker forums available, and the community within is far more friendly than those typicaly found on other sites. We've made a 'lurkers edition' of the poker forum available here on Holdem Poker Online, but we encourage all visitors to register and join in on the conversations on TexasHoldem-Poker.com

Sounds like a good read. I will have to check it out...
Now before someone calls you a spammer or the mods come down on you...you might want to remove the URL from your signature...it is against forum rules...

Are you in training to become a moderator or are you just a wannabe? ;o)

Ok I think we have ascertained so far that I'm a spammer, my forum sucks and UrAteUp is the best poker player since Phil Helmuth.
Not really interested in getting into a slanging match with people, but if you have read any good biographies of poker players then I'm all ears.

I removed his sig earlier and left it at that.
And yes urateup was simply pointing out to you that this community does not allow promotions and linkage in its sigs. Now I had left your forum link on your profile, and the self promoting name. We're not that uptight. Hell, I didnt even edit the sig off that old post (though I likely will in a few moments).
The name, the link, the sig: theres no doubt what your registrations motive was/is. Just realize you're walking a very fine line. Obviously we have to deal with this stuff every day, so tolerance is rather short.

Ok my appologies then for getting a shade nasty. I don't like "slanging" matches myself and you have removed your link from your signature. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and say your an ok guy. Welcome to the forum.
The first biography I read on a poker player was Annie Dukes' " How I Raised, Folded, Bluffed, Flirted, Cursed, and Won Millions at the World Series of Poker". I wasn't wild about it to be honest. There were some good parts in it but you could tell what was dramatized and what wasn't.
I recently finished one about Amarillo Slim named "Amarillo Slim in a World Full of Fat People: The Memoirs of the Greatest Gambler Who Ever Lived". It was an interesting read to learn about the life of an old school gambler.
I hear tell that Doyle is releasing an autobiography soon but I do not know the exact release date.

Yeah I have heared a few people say they werent that impressed with the Annie Duke book. I read an interview she had given in one of the UK gambling magazines and she came across as a bit up her own arse (but I supposed you would be with the money shes got).
Thanks for the heads up on Doyles book thats a new one on me.

These posts have got me in a bit of a conundrum.
I'm going on holiday in a few weeks and was planning to read a book to improve my poker knowledge such as super system or harrington on hold'em.
However since you guys have been discussing biographies, i'm thinking this could be a "relaxing change" to my normal poker research.
Man, life brings up tuff decisions.
What do I do?

If you want a good laugh then read Big Deal: One Year as a Professional Poker Player by Anthony Holden.

Jimmer
I'd go with Harrington Vol 1 and 2 if you have time.
Not that the fancy plays work in lower limit "ALL IN BABY" Tournys but hey can't hurt.
