So the general consensus is...its not against the rules to use any type of cheat sheet or card as you play?? yes or no??
I am a beginner, and bought howard lederers secrets of hold 'em in which 75% of the video focused on "pre-flop" strategy. Accoding to him this is one of the most important parts of the game, getting your opponents to make "mistakes" by calling your raises etc...in an attempt to grow the pot and force other players out of the hand before the flop even happens!!
tHE VIDEO WAS VERY INSIGHTFUL AND INFORMATIONAL. great for a beginner.
He even says that he could not possibly come up with post-flop strategy..that in the 20 yrs he has been playing he is still only "comfortable" with 4th st and the river...
So....the answer to my qustion about use of strategy cars is YES I can use them or NO i cannot???

i don't know if there is an actual rule against it, but i seriously doubt any casino would allow it.

Im sure you can use them. But not so sure as i have not done it.

I don't see why you could not use them. I have been at a few casino's where people are at the table with note pad and paper writing down notes. I guess they are writing on their play, the hands they play, and the hands you play.. just my guess. Why would having a cheat sheet be any different?

If your worried about having somone see you using it bring a book magazine or newspaper, hide the "cheatsheet" in there when its time take a peek......kinda like back in school with the nudy magazine in the text book

If you need to play with a strategy card... I doubt you should be playing at all. I'd be perfectly happy to see an opponent referring to a cheat sheet - it would let me know he doesn't really know what he's doing.

Good idea -- hold a cheat sheet so people think you don't know what you're doing!
Seriously, though, it depends on the casino. Some casinos even give out cheat sheets to the players!
Don't even worry about what the players say, by the way. You're there to win, and as long as you're not cheating or doing something horrible like screaming at people or something, it's none of their business if you use a cheat sheet or write notes.

A strategy sheet is something you should study to be better at your game. If you need a strategy sheet to play, you should probably stick to Blackjack.

I have played with players using them...
I have played with someone sitting two players to my right with his copy of " Theory of Poker" opened in his lap...
During ESPN's telecast of 2003 WSOP you see someone reading Poker for Dummies at the table also in Positively Fifth Street Jim McManus wrote himself a "strategy note" and had it sitting with him while he placed 5th in 2000 wsop...

I only play online and I usually have a little piece of paper next to the computer with some pre flop strategies. I try to stick by them even if I loosen up or tighten up depending on the game I'm playing.
I do this to better help me avoid playing scared or going on tilt. Sure, I can still get scared post flop or even go on tilt post flop. But at least the odds are with me by the time I see the flop.

I think the cheat sheet rule would vary by casino....I've seen & heard of people using basic strategy cards at blackjack tables, but I also know that at some places this is not allowed.
As someone said earlier tho, if you need a cheat sheet or list of hand rankings or something, then you may want to just stick to the home games for a while, when you feel more comfortable with your game, then check the casinos out.
Personally I agree with Doyle in that you should be able to recognize ALL the possible hands on EVERY flop without making mistakes before you should be gambling your money

You re-raise with Ak suited preflop to see where you are. Did you run into a hand like AA or KK you will mostlikey find out. Theres a post about it somewhere on the forums....
