Those aren't particularly bad beats, and you brought them on yourself by not betting high enough. Min betting is not going to get anyone with any sort of a hand out of a pot.

Posted Sat Jun 24, 2006 7:19 pm GMT by mikenike
at 10/25 it does.

and explain how that isn't a bad beat.

Posted Sat Jun 24, 2006 7:25 pm GMT by Jefecaminador
He had 6 outs, two 3's and 4 6's, and he probably thought an ace was good for him as well giving him 10 outs. (You happened to have the ace, but he didnt know that, so he'd assume an ace was good.) My point is, you only bet .25 cents, the size of the big blind.... THAT is NOT a big bet. You need to force people to pay for their draws, he was getting huge odds to call you, and in fact he made the RIGHT call. If you want to win in poker, you can't let people have a chance at making their draws cheaply, and then pay them off when they do hit.

Posted Sat Jun 24, 2006 7:31 pm GMT by mikenike
there was a 12.5% chance that he would hit http://www.texasholdem-poker.com/glossary.php#Burl

Posted Sat Jun 24, 2006 7:45 pm GMT by Jefecaminador
Yeah, and the pot was laying him 8 to 1. So he made the right call, even assuming the ace wasnt good for him, which he had no way of knowing. So again, he made the right call.

is it not a bad beat either? mr.iknoweverything

Posted Sat Jun 24, 2006 8:00 pm GMT by Jefecaminador
you went all in against 2 other ppl with 88. Thats not a bad beat, thats a bad play.

Posted Sat Jun 24, 2006 8:32 pm GMT by mikenike
jeff i see you, critize everyones play, but do you even play poker? or are you a Mike the mouth announcer telling everyone they suck?

Posted Sat Jun 24, 2006 8:45 pm GMT by Jefecaminador
Don't take it personally, I'm just giving you tough love. If you listen and actually consider some of the things I'm saying, it'll help your game out. You generally don't want to go heads up against 2 ppl unless you have a really strong hand, 88 does not qualify as a really strong hand. In the example you gave, you only had about a 20% chance to win the pot. And in the case where you had trip 5s, you only bet 25 cents into a 2 dollar pot. Thats giving the right odds for anyone with a straight draw to call you.

You may have gotten those garbage hands to fold if you didn't absolutely butcher every street.
