At the final table of the 2005 WSOP main event when he started to slander Phil Hellmuth when he was playing around with his chip stack?? At first you see him laughing about it, but then all of a sudden the guy explodes and calls him names and disrespects him greatly. "youre a PUNK! noone should buy your books blablabla"
then they even shook hands and he started all over again with his psycho babble!
I thought up until that point Steve had been a golden guy.. but he went really out of line there. He could have just aksed nicely or aksed the floorman or something.. but i guess he had to be mr smartmouth jus because its philly... anyone else agree with me that was a prick-like thing to do?

This was at the TOC, not the main event. I also think Dannenman was just trying to get on camera.

Steve is just one of those people who thinks that just because he acts nice all the time, he has a right to be the moral judge and jury on everyone. Very much a prick thing to do. He doesnt even know Helmuth, yet since Helumuth has that poker brat image, he thinks he has the right to put him in his place.

If anything, I felt like Steve was behaving like much more of a jerk in the ME in the hands against Lederer than he was in the TOC vs. Phil, because truth is, Phil WAS being a complete punk and a baby. He was talking smack about other players' styles, and that garbage he pulled by knocking ove rall his chips was just childish, and I don't blame Steve for jumping on him there. I don't care how many bracelets you have, conduct yourself with some class at the table for god's sake. The only thing I felt was wrong was that Steve had a weird double standard for Mike, because he never jumped on his behavior, and frankly he seems to have his nose up Mike's ass.

It's been a while since I have seen it, but if I do recall, Helmuth was being pretty disrespectful towards everyone and I thought before Dannenmann exploded it was due to Helmuth hiding his large chips in the back of his stack and disrespecting the floor man. I could be wrong though, and I do think Dannenmann's outburst was a little, but I'm pretty sure Helmuth was in the wrong there. It just seemed like something that was building and building and building and finally just crashed all at once

Not necessarily, Hellmuth and Matusow just had this "war", it was fun and good TV, IMO. Dannenmann went too far, even though many might think the same way...

Ok I just read about Dannerman last night in the newest All-In Magazine. Like him or hate him the guy knows his shit.
He admits to not being the greatest poker player around and knows his game needs lots of work but he at least admits this... .
As for the blowup at Helmuth. The deal was Helmuth had his chips stacked ass backward and you couldn't see the big denominations. Then he just simply wasn't stacking them. The floor person mentioned it to Phil to clean it up but he started ranting about other players to the floor guy. Dannerman was not aware that there was even an open mike near him at the time. He heard Helmuth jumping on the floor person and decided to jump back at Phil instede of letting Phil try to intimidate the floor people.

Why was this any of Dannenman's business? Who appointed him table cop? I don't disagree that Hellmuth was misbehaving and was out of line, but the point is that Dannenman had no business getting in the middle of it.

Hellmuth is a punk and no one should buy his DVDs or books.
+1 for Dannenman.
