Good bluff or bad?

Posted Mon Jun 26, 2006 8:30 pm GMT by UrAteUp
Ok this is one of the rare times I bluffed. Tell me is it a good bluff or could I really have been ahead?

I'm not even looking at the hands. Wanna know why?

Posted Mon Jun 26, 2006 8:45 pm GMT by Johny
Hand 1: Your opponents didn't show much strenght during the hand. The
ace is a good scare card to use along with having position on them.

Hand 2: When buying in short you can't throw away chips on draws with incorrect pot odds. If your going to play a draw, play it aggressively.
You're only getting 3-1 and an 8 gives you the sucker end of a straight. I don't think you have much implied odds.

I wouldn't consider your river bet as a bluff because a better hand than yours isn't folding.

Hand 1) I figured wasn't really much of a bluff.

Hand 2) Oh now your telling me that bet didn't give them great impression I had a great hand when I couldn't even beat a pair?

Well at least since you didnt' know what you had, you also didn't realize you finally bet when the 3rd diamond came and the board paired.

The point of bluffing is to make someone fold a better hand. Having a hand that is okay or may be best makes this difficult because there are few better hands that will fold. If you held something like 8-hi making a better hand fold would be easier because virtually any hand that folded would be better. You'd be much better off bluffing when your hand has no chance of being best and checking when your hand could be best but isn't strong enough to bet for value.

In both of your examples I highly doubt that anyone folded a better hand. So I'd rate them both as terrible bluffs.

Hey guys, thanks to everyone who responded. I have to agree both times here it does look as though I had the best hand and neither of these was a bluff of any kind. Well better luck next time for me I guess... Laughing

URAteup I would reply to your hand history's far more frequently if you changed the format of the hand history.

How so Phil? Feedback on how to post them better would be appreciated by all. This is from Doyles room. I am working on a program that will go in and strip away all the time bs and everything. If I can get some feedback on what would work best then I can create the program around that feedback.
