yeah i was a bit confused about this one, this guy has the biggest stack on our table. Considering he called my initial raise i would of put him on at least an ace (AK?, AQ?)

But i do think i could of played that a bit better, possibly a larger raise pre-flop or even taking a few stabs at the pot seeing if he re-raises me maybe.

Thoughts?

I don't think folding here was bad. A bet somewhere, no later than the turn would have been an ok play. I think the preflop raise is a little much though. 10xBB? I realize this is a freeroll, but still...

Overall? I've seen worse.

you HAVE to raise this much in teh first levels of a tournament to get people to fold. if he raises to 80 chips, hell get 5 callers.

yeah i guess it was a bit much, i was thinking, these guys have been going all in with hands like J Heart 6 Club and if i make a big enough raise might prompt them to go all in.

but yeah Confused possibly a smaller raise

EDIT- Just doubled up off that guy, turns out he probably had the ace, i think i worked out his style...

maybe in a freeroll. I've never really played one and taken it seriously so I don't know. As for real $ tourneys, a raise of 3-5xBB is fine.

at 15/30 blinds, a raise to 90 doesnt bet ANYONE out of the pot. if they intended on limping, they will call an extra 60 chips to see the pot. this is for all tournaments 20 dollars and under.

Well if you're looking for an analysis of this hand, here's what I think.

1. The pre-flop raise is too large. I agree that 3x the BB lets too many in, and this being a freeroll, I'd say about 5-6x the BB is better. The problem with your raise is it discourages weaker hands from calling, and may build a big pot too early in the hand. Notice that you've already put in a lot of chips, so when a bad flop like that one hits, you really hate life.
2. When he checks to you on the turn, you HAVE to bet. If he raises, you're done, but after he checks twice, I think you're obligated to at least stab at it. Notice that if he had had to call a bet and THEN went all-in on the river, I think you'd have a better idea of where you stand, because I think he needs an A or T to call on the turn, but MAYBE a lower PP.
3. I think the river is an easy fold. In a freeroll against bad players, you are bound to find any number of better situations to put in all your chips. Plus, look at the size of that bet. Risk that much on a 800 pot? I don't think so.

thanks for the advice and comments guys

*for those who care, i finished about 180th when my K Spade Q Spade lost in a race to A Heart Q Heart as you would expect.

all in all im glad with my playing with nearly 10,000 people in the tourney i dont think 180th is too bad Smile

There is a reason why I'm still playing and you're not.

Ok I agree with Zinn0 here. A 10xBB raise is crazy even in a freeroll. The only hands that will call you are AX or possibly PP praying for the set or boat. A hand like KK I would raise 4-6xBB. In his position and with his hand I think OP made a good laydown. True the guy could have only had a duece, but he also could have had an A or worse, quads. If you had limited this raise to a 4-6xBB bet then you could have easily conserved some chips and got away from this hand cheaper.

just my input... Smile
