WSOP POY Predictions

Posted Tue Jun 27, 2006 3:08 am GMT by xDiamond_CutteRx
Pick any three players, we'll see who gets the most points overall this year.

My three picks would be
1. Chris Ferguson
2. John Juanda
3. Phil Ivey (hoping this will be his year).

I'm tempted to take a player like Scott Fischman or Cyndy Violette as well, seeing as they play a lot of tournaments and that they have done very well the last two years.

Edit: If they're including the Circuit in the POY standing, I would change my third pick from Ivey to Negreanu (seeing as how he won Tunica and will either 1st or 2nd the TOC).

Well, good news for my picks so far: Juanda's already made a final table, Ferguson cashed in the same event, and Ivey is doing well in the Limit Hold'em tournament.

Jp's man Carlos Mortensen just took 9th in the opening NL event. Leafsfan, you'll be happy to know Greg Raymer already has one cash under his belt.

Thanks for the update Diamond.

Juanda busted out the the PL Hold'em tourney in 8th Place. Ivey is now chip leader in the limit event, and Daniel Negreanu is currently the monster chip leader in the 6-handed NL tournament. The pros are off to a good start this year it looks like.

Internet sensation and young gun Josh Schlein took 3rd in the Limit Hold'em event today.

After donking off his chips with AA to Dutch Boyd's trip 7's, Daniel Negreanu took 8th Place in the short-handed NL event. The big story there, in addition to Dutch Boyd's huge lead, is the presence of last year's ME champion, Joe Hachem, defending his reputation admirably.

Well, I think we can go ahead and say safely that Joe Hachem was no "fluke" champion, as he's now made a Circuit FT, and just took second place in the 6-max Hold'em event (Dutch Boyd won his first bracelet in this event). It's a shame that the ESPN coverage of Hachem in 2005 glossed over how great a player he truly is. I'd like to see a sick Hachem vs. Raymer at a final table this year. Wink

Meanwhile, Carlos Mortensen is another run toward a final table... good call on that one, Jp. Let's hope his luck won't run out this time, as I'd love to see the Matador win a second bracelet. This guy is truly fearless and a Poker idol of mine.

does anyone know when the No limit Hold'em final table is going to be played?

Told you Hachem was awsome...

comes from Melbourne too :D

Phil Helmuth is now heads up against Jeff Cabanillas with a slight chiplead in the $5000 NL HE event. Isabelle Mercier came in 4th and took home $175,404 for her efforts. The tournament started with 622 entrants, and currently Mike Matusow, Phil's good friend is along side the final table cheering him on.

This would be great to watch on TV.

Phil loses again!

Here's an update on my picks...

Phil Ivey: 3 cashes, 2 final tables
John Juanda: 3 cashes, 1 final table
Chris Ferguson: 3 cashes... pick up the pace, Jesus!

Others...

Matusow: 2 cashes, 1 final table
Raymer: 1 cash
Negreanu: 4 cashes, 2 final tables
Carlos Mortensen: 3 cashes, 2 final tables

Well, sadly none of us did real well...

Phil Ivey: 1258
Carlos Mortensen: 960
Daniel Negreanu: 506

No one else we picked even cracked the top 200.

So I guess JpForum is the big winner for this year's predictions. Congrats!

Haven't seen JP around here in a while..

Wow Raymer was sorta dissappointing this year, I think.
