Ventured into new territory tonight...5/10 NL at the Rio |

After a profitable week playing local 1/2 & 2/5 NL games, tonight I figured I'd try stepping it up a notch, & sat in one of the 5/10 NL cash games currently going on at the Rio as side games for the WSOP. I made a nice $700 score the night before, also at the Rio, playing their 2/5 game with a $500 cap; but the 5/10 has no cap so I figured I'd give it a shot. Cash plays, $100 bills only. I bought in for $2k, lost a grand in about a half hour, then put another $1k on the table to bring me back to 2 again.
Overall, lots and lots of action, only about 2 real rocks at the table, just lots and lots of preflop $60 action, with there typically being at least a hundred, sometimes a couple hundred being bet on each card.
I originally lost a thousand, then I changed seats and I caught some real spectacular hands, usually from trash starting cards (78o makes nut straight on the turn, A6c flopping two more sixes on board, etc...) & the action players paid me off just about every time, as long as you keep your bets under $300... I overcame my initial $1k loss, and ended up at just barely above a $300 profit for the night.
\moral of this story, if you're in vegas for the wsop, take out a few grand and play in the 5/10 NL game at the Rio :D
