I guess this is two separate questions.
Maybe this should go in the Casino section, but meh. I see this when looking at what games a Casino card room offers. They will be limit games and it will say something like "$4-$8-$8 Texas Hold'em with a 1/2 Kill"
What's the 3 amounts and what is the "kill"?
I've also seen just "$6 - $12 Texas Hold'em with a 1/2 Kill", so it's not just when there are more than 2 amounts listed.
I'm assuming the kill has to do with the limit or cap on the betting?
I think someone has explained both of these things to me before, but I can't remember

Kill increases the stakes and makes someone post additional.
For example: 6/12 with 1/2 kill becomes 9/18. A kill pot is created when a player wins 2 consecutive hands where the pot is large enough to qualify (stealing blinds or small pots do not create kills).
The person who created the kill pot needs to post, the blinds remain the same. So a 6/12 kill becomes stakes of 9/18 and blinds are still $3/$6 and the kill player post is $9.
I am not sure about the 4-8-8. Maybe the bets are:
1st bet $4
2nd raise $4 to $8 total
3rd raise $8 to $16 total?
I doubt I am right, but I bet it is something along those lines.

I believe that the third number might refer to the river bet. Ciaffone talks about those games in middle limit hold'em. I've never seen them outside this book, but it changes your strategy a little bit because the river bet becomes very big compared to the other streets. I don't know maybe thats it. And Dave's right on about the kill, pretty much just creates action.
It also doesn't have to be only pots that qualify, one casino near me any pot qualifies, no matter how small, but I think most are as Dave described.

okay i just asked my Grandfather
Who probaly the only Person That Knows more about Limit then Dave
and he said the last 8 means you can double up on the River so it realy should say 4-8 +8 or 4-8-16
and Foxwoods the Pot needs to 100dollers at the 5-10 Game for the Kill to be Counted

kill stakes means you have the legal right to kill anyone who outdraws you when you are a 4-1 favorite or better.

no only in your Dreams MR Bad Beat
by the Way thats the only thing i dont like about Foxwoods is they dont have Jackpots at all.
if you get a RoyalFlush you can pick out a Jacket,Some Chips and somether things that are all worth less then 100Dollers but no RoyalFlush Jackpot

The 5/10 kill at foxwoods goes to 10/20 everytime the pot is over $100.
