Well, a donkey is usually not considered very smart. That's all I can think of.

I still prefer fish.

Thanks for the question, Mr.Darling. I was actually going to ask it myself. The term "donk" and "donkisms" just appeared and suddenly everybody started using it. You wouldn´t have heard this word only 2 months ago... My guess is that some poker celeb thought it up and everybody took it up.

Fish still sounds a lot better and more logical to me. If you are a fish, you can be eaten by sharks. But if you are a donkey, what should we call top players then? Elephants? lol

Donk is short for Donkey, or Ass. Like those old cartoons where the character does something stupid and turns briefly into a donkey to show that he feels like an ass.

The term "donkbet" is often used to describe someone making a really dumb looking bet (like 1/10th of the pot, or 6x the pot); bets that either can't be called unless you're beat, or no one can fold to regardless of what they're holding.

I try to reserve the derogitive "donk" for recklessly LAG-y players. I use "fish" to describe passive players. They're both used fairly interchangable these days, though.

Hope my explaination satisfies ya.
