MTT's are so gay it's sickening. I haven't gotten into the top 50% in the past 25 MTT's I've played. I'm usually doing great at the beginning, cruising with way above average chips and bam, I lose most of my stack in a 60/40 or a 70/30.
Like a tournament I just played, I got KK three times, AA once, QQ once in the span of 50 hands or so and was at 5.5k chips while the average was about 2k. Then I get pocket jacks in late position and raise 5x BB. Small blind calls and the flop is 653. The a**hole called with 64 and I lose the 55/45.
I mean if that was cash games, I'd be up $200 and my losses to that sick flop would've been minimal...but in a tournament you have your whole stack on the line at all times. How insanely lucky do you really need to get to make the final table in a 300 person tournament? JEEEES!

You're a good player Ice, just take a break from MTTs for a while would be my suggestion. Your frustrations is basically just a typical MTT-style complication that we all go through.
Take a break, and then continue to play like you know how to. It will all work out.

for a while, on Absolute i was going through a string where i would make final tables quite a bit. now i just can't do it anymore, i think i need to go back through and read HOH again....that might be what it is....as i have gone through military training and all that crap and now have time to play a bit more....im going to take a break from them for a bit....save up some money and go back to playing tournaments....The thing that kills me the most is i'll play 2 or 3 tournies at a time now...where as before i would just play one at a time and would concentrate really well, took good notes on everyone and was just real attentive. Now my concentration goes elsewhere. So, my suggestion, if you even care. is take some time away from tourneys, read a book....and then come back later

Try winning a satellie to Partys $1 Million guaranteed, having 2x the average chip stack after the two hour mark, and getting knocked out with Aces after 3 re raises when someone puts you all-in with QJ with the same stack as you

Here's the thing, I tried really hard to win a WSOP entry this year. I signed up to around 10 different poker sites and deposited on each so I can get a deal like the THP pacific one. So I played about 12 WSOP tourneys with about 200-300 players and lost each one of them at about the halfway mark. Each time I was way above average chips and was slight favorite to win the hand.
Further, I played in 15 party $215 WSOP tourneys with about 150 people and 2-3 WSOP spots. I got out of each of them the same way as above. And the funny thing is that I only payed 25 * $16 to play in them. I did the $16 SNG sattelite to the $55 SNG sattelite for the $215 tourney. I was about 80% 1st or 2nd place in those SNG's which is insane. I'm sure I got lucky a bunch of times but I think I kill the SNG's...MTT's are a different story.
I just can't seem to be able to win the 10-15 slight favorites (60/40's) that you have to win in order to make the final table of an MTT...
Oh well...I'll be watching it again on TV it seems

Hey I hear ya man.
If youre big into MTT's just read your harrington, be patient, calm, and try to be on your best game.
MTT's require a huge amount of skill, but in order to take those down, I guarantee you that you have to get lucky atleast once.

Try to avoid risking your whole stack early on a 55/45 or 60/40 draw. Try building your stack early by taking down small pots. All-ins before the flop are dangerous unless you have AA or KK. Raise your big hands, but be very cautious about putting all your chips in unless you are a heavy favorite, or heads up against a much smaller stack.
You DO have to get lucky in MTT's however. I play a lot of the 20k and 40k tournaments on party poker. It is definitely frustraiting to play for 2 hrs and get knocked out with AQ when someone decides its a good idea to call with JTs preflop. Eventually you are going to have to win some coinflips to win one of these things, the key is to stay out of the situations as much as possible.
