His stats:

Very frustrating playing against this guy, he raised with everything and won 62% of his showdowns. To say he dominated the table is putting it mildly. This was at $2/$4 limit HE by the way. Here is an example of his play.

Now I like to think in the long run this guy will lose but this is not the first time I have seen a maniac dominate a table. It just makes me think, can I learn anything from this guy.

To answer your question, yes you can learn alot from him.

I can't believe no one made a bet on the turn or river on that first hand. Your villain probably did not expect to win that one, but at that point the others are afraid of him.

Yes, there is something you can learn. Mostly, there is a raise button. Use it. A lot.

I think I play pretty solid poker, unfortunately I was'nt getting very good cards and I was'nt going to try to bluff this guy. This guy also was winning 66% of his showdowns. This was on Interpoker and I have been watching for him since but hav'nt seen him. I would like another shot at him.

Good advice from a maniac... . The secret to playing a maniac is waiting for great starting cards and making them pay dearly for aggression.
Rule 2 is never let a maniac limp into a pot your playing in. In order to know how to avoid this revert to rule 1.

as i have posted on another thread about my .01/.02 NL games...in one of the games this weekend we got a maniac at the table, i was sitting with 14$ on the table, this guy buys in for 2$ and starts pushing everything....somehow he manages to build his stack up to 10$...meanwhile im on a string of really bad cards....i type in...."you just wait, your stack is mine" he said "oh really?"....Three hands later i get AA on the big blind. (my fav. place to get AA) This time he just limps, flop is K 8 3 and he pushes...I immidiatly(sp?) call he has K9o and gets no help and he leaves bitching....so much fun!

This situation is it's own circle of hell for a good player. When arrogantly bad play combines with unbelievably good luck it is easy to think that the fates are just plain against you. I see these kinds of players a lot in my FL ring games and I see three consequences of their behavior:
1. They force out a LOT of marginal starting cards. If bozo raises or reraises most hands then the JT suited, AT, and 77 starting cards aren't going to play and his competition goes down.
2. They force out a lot of winning hands post flop. Top pair begins to doubt his strength and will fold rather than call down.
3. Both situations above reduce the number of players in the pot making the payoff from playing even great starting cards even lower when you do win. If bozo is a known raiser, you come at him after a period of inactivity, everyone else is going to head for the hills, unless they ALSO have a monster hand.
Had one of these bozos last week who stayed in a 2-raise preflop with what turned out to be 83 suited. I had waited forever for pocket aces and the flop had an ace. But I also watched as an open ended 4-card straight to the seven built on the board and, of course, bozo, who wouldn't dream of folding, took it down.
Like eyemin, I don't have a great strategy for dealing with these guys as it also seems as if I end up at these tables with a streak of crappola cards. However, I have also had a very few tables when the best possible thing happens, you get two of these bozos at the same table. Whoooeeee. Now you automatically have pots worth going after and the traps you can lay are wonders to behold. My absolute biggest winning tables ever have been in these circumstances.
I hate to leave a table with one of these wackos, but it is discouraging sometimes.

I will take one of these marginal hands into a pot with a maniac any day. It's all in knowing how to play it. If you don't connect on the flop then lay it down and come back with another one. When you do connect on the flop it really pisses off a maniac. Maniacs have been feeding my bankroll for awhile now. I even watch for new ones because the ones I usually play know if I am in a pot for any distance then I have a good hand or possibly the nut hand already.
