Most people are comfortable buying in to a $1/$2 with $100, but you can never have too many chips infront of you. I'd buy in with $200. Having a large stack sends a signal to the other people at the table that says "Hello. I'm here to play some serious poker".

Hope that helps.

Try not to take more to the table than you'd be prepared to lose cos let's be honest, if it's in front of u then it's fair game to the rest of the table and other large-stacked people will put harder decisions on u for more of ur money if they've got any sense. Just my opinion which is very humble Wink

I usually buy in with $60.00 or $80.00 on a 2/4 table in Vegas. If you play conservative you can play for hours, and still have more than enough to play the big pots.

I think that there can be a wide range of appropriate buy-in's all depending on your playing style. If you are a raiser and re-raiser with any AX than more chips is a good idea. When I first started, I was at TruePoker.com and sat down with 40$ on a 1/2$ Limit Holdem table. I won a solid amount, well over double in just a little while. Though it could have just as easily have gone the other way. Just take what you can to the table and more is better. Just know yourself as a player, and if you know you arent very good and have a tendency to get carried away, as so many of us do in the beginning, dont take more than you are willing to lose. That seems like a common sense statement, but I have seen people lose whole pay checks and more on a 1/2$ table in the time it takes my GF to get ready for her day. (Still wondering who is worse off, me or the guy losing in the same amount of time)
