Uh, easy call.

Is that what you were looking for?

its too obvious to even state Diamond.
Thats whats so baffling about this post.

The only hand your beaten by is 55.
Auto call every time, no brainer.
If he has quad 5's, oh well, I think every poker player in the world goes broke if thats the case.

Guys, don't be stupid. Villain obviously has 55.

of course, easy lay down
How stupid of me to think my nut boat was good.

After re-reading the title of this thread, I think it was made to expose the villains dumb bet, and hero must have been thrilled to push the call button and rake in the big pot.

I think Villain had 55.

Posted Fri Jul 21, 2006 8:26 pm GMT by efram
riiight, its all in the title.
but there is a question mark, as if it might not be an uber donk bet, but a fantastic bet by the quad holder.

I'm sure villian has some kinda of a hand, and if he's got 5's, I'm payin him off every single time, every single time.

Maybe villain had AA and hero is proud to crack them?

Posted Fri Jul 21, 2006 8:28 pm GMT by efram
I think he's got Colonel Mustard suited, slow played it perfectly.

Good bit of advanced theory here. Glad I took the time to read it.

He had 55.

I called losing a huge pot. Considering I had the top boat, I agree that I really have to call.

That being said - I thought this was an interesting bet. If I have a full house I have to pay it off. If I don't - I'm probably not putting money in without the straight or a 5 (and he has both fives).

Shrug.

So instead of making a value bet, he chose to overbet.

Don't worry though, you made the right call - better luck next time.

This is actually a very good bet by villain as it looks like a bluff that you might call with just top pair. If you have nothing, then you weren't going to call a value bet anyway, but he doubles through if he catches you with what you have. All in all, you generally don't get a whole lot of action when you flop quads., so the EV of pushing vs. making a value bet is probably +.

No way you could fold...tough break.

Ahem.

a lot of players will make overbets at pots hoping to get called because they only need to get called say 1 in 3 or 1 in 4 times for it to be very profitable

i'd say don't call an overbet without the nuts, but in that case i really mean fold a king high flush to a possible ace high one, fold a nut flush to a paired board, fold top set or two pair to a possible straight, etc, etc

you can't get away from this hand and this hand really belongs in the 'bad beat' section
